aem ems or hondata s300 ?
hi need to know which ems is better for my b16a turbo application on a obd1 1993 civic dx hatch . ready to buy one but have heard mixed things about both units . im leaning more towards aem . can someone help me on this subject ??
S300 is going to be cheaper and easier to make adjustments to yourself. My tuner told me AEM is stupid complicated and unless you really know what your doing, you can't make any changes on your own.
I've had both. And i like the s300 alot better. For some reason the AEM always had a rough idle and all my friends that had the EMS, theirs was the same too.

sorry to thread steal but now that the topic of aem vs hondata came up can you run the aem twin injector driver thing (for coil packs, i.e. a distributor-less ignition setup) with the hondata s300 unit? or is it an aem exclusive option....?
sounds great i will be purchasing a hondata s300 .. i will post a a new thread sometime at the end of the week after i put this setup together . will be running a 60/1 garrett and syncronic wastegate and bov , also custom ramhorn turbo mani + other stuff . thanks for the advice !!!
Let me know how everything goes. This has been a question i have been debating on for a month now. I am glad you posted this. I really want to go with the AEM but the only tuner i know in this area perfer s300. he said he can tune with AEM but... I know with AEM i can hook the laptop up to it and have several maps and load them .. I heard I can do that on hondata i just dont know about how many.. so let me know if you dont mind!! thanks
Ectune has well more features than Hondata, its constantly updated and support is bar none.
Hondata has a gui like windows 3.1 and ectune is like xp
Hondata is a solid ems and will work great but I have tuned or own all the ems's listed and ectune is the best oem ecu ems out, period.
Crome is a thing of the past for anyone serious.
I have an aem ems for sale, $600. pm me if you like

You can always hook a labtop up to a Ectune Pro, Hondata s300 or Neptune RTP ECU as well, loading as many different maps as you like. Its as simple as a usb cable.
AEM Huge Thumbs Down - good luck with that piece had one and hated it
S300 thumbs up - run it now and love it
ectune great system
neptune rtp great system
crome pro another good system not great but gets the job done well

also remember that 95% of the aem hate is b/c people dont know what they are doing or have issues related to the car, not the ecu. The AEM is alot more picky about sensor inputs than anything based on the stock ecu.
