Default my new toy.......exciting!

So it has been a long time since I have purchased anything for my car so I decided to get something that is worth every penny. I want to thank Dave @ SMS for super service and an awesome looking product. I cant wait to throw this thing on, not sure when I am going to because I need to save $$$ for tuning but I will give an update once I do to share numbers with everybody. This is a B18C1 Stainless/Jet Hot coated piece, I couldnt be happier with it. I have already taken it by a few friends and shown it off and we all are impressed with it. Thanks DAVE!

Mine has the water jet cut SMSP into the flange and yours is just stamped? Mine is a stage 2, what stage is yours? My O2 is also in the collector not the pipe, and length looks longer than mine.

Dave told me it was a stage 2 piece, running 81.5mm bore, stock stroke, 13:1cr.

But if its your DD, why go with 110 just for numbers if your not going to run it with that? Any plans to track it in the near future?

Right now I run 2 different chips in my ECU, a chip that was done for 91 octane for driving around, just light throttle, NO VTEC! and then I have another chip that I swap out thats tuned with 110 octane, the 110 tune is not very good though. I dont do auto x stuff, my plan was to have a 12 second street car, which I think is possible if I can get a good tune.

Im pretty sure your more prone to detonation when your not in vtec (low cam) and in high load ranges than when you are in vtec...

Finally someone with a SS and coated. I have been wanting see one. I sent Dave an email today to finalize my order content for nearly the exact same thing. I am also going to have a cat made to go with mine. Keep us up-to-date on the progress and show us the dyno.

RNbuilt was the first person I saw on here with a SS stage 2 SMSP that was coated. Looks really nice.

im confused by your comment. it does not ping/detonate when I drive around town because I am never more than 50% throttle. The only time I am more than 50% throttle is when I have 110 in the tank and I am taking the motor into the higher rpm range.

different engines have different detonation "thresholds". Low rpm high load is usually one spot where you got to watch.

Yea that makes sense, but I am never under any type of stressful load at lower rpms because I know if I did it would detonate, so I drive it carefully.

Now I'm confused, why would you even have to worry about detonation? Whats the specs on the motor?

Nate,

Glad to see you are happy with your purchase. Good luck with the rest of the car.

Things always get updated here and there. The O2 bung in the secondary makes for an easier install.

I figured if I was going to spend $$$$, might as well go all out and get the best possible piece I could. I figured SS would hold up better in the long run and to have it coated would just make it that much better. I think others can appreciate my decision also.

321 conducts heat better than 4130. Excellent workmanship! As far as tuning goes, I'd like to see at least one digital egt. Whoever you choose to tune the car be able to use the egt data along with the O2 data to provide you with a tune that is specific to your setup. Some shops just keep a tune database, pick one close to your setup, load it up, call it a day and charge you a bunch of money for work they didnt really do to your car.
