How do you tell if a 91 Hatchback is a base model or DX?
I'm looking at a 91 Civic Hatchback here in Atlanta and was wondering how I could tell if it was the base or DX model?
Is there a site where I can plug in the VIN # and it would come back with that information? I have the Carfax report here and all it says is 1.5L motor. Would the Carfax report say DX on it if it were?

basemodel stock was a 4 speed. dx was 5 speed. also, no passenger side rearview mirror. There are a lot of different ways to tell, but those are a couple.
a few more are the bumper covers and driver side mirror housings are unpainted on the std, and the hatch should theoretically have a dx badge, while the std had no badge. I dont think the std had a rear windshield wiper either. The std also has no center console plastic, there is just a gear lever and a rubber boot coming out of the floor, with no plastic around it.
For the record, carfax does not really specify correct EF info. I have a ed7 that i know is an SI, but it is listed as a 1.5 l in the carfax. so carfax is really only good for showing whether the car has been totalled in the past.

STD model has D15B1 engine with close coupled cat - cat is connected directly to the exhaust manifold like a CRX HF
when i bought my car i googled the vin and it told me the model some other basic info and that for what ever amount of money i could view the 3 or 4 reports on it

Over the base model, the DX got:
- cloth seats & door inserts

Yes it will work. I have a STD hatch with a ex 4d cluster. It has to be from the same year. 90-91 with 90-91(plug and play)
