Default Dyno Results...?

I just got my car back from the shop where it was on the dyno. According the print out it made 173.1 hp at the flywheel. Isnt this low considering this is not the measurement of wheel hp? It is a stock jdm itr motor with intake and exhaust. Any info will help. Thanks guys.

I think that you misunderstood what the HP figures mean.

173 HP on a Dynojet would be perfectly acceptable. When the readout says "flywheel HP" it doesn't mean the same thing as the SAE Net HP that was used seven or eight years ago.

Ohh ok, so when it reads flywheel what is that actually measuring. HP at the combustion of the motor or wheel? Here is a read out:

Is your car tuned to do something in particular?

It's not stock?

I'm not seeing the usual VTEC spike that we'd normally expect.

But 173HP is perfectly normal for a stock to light modified motor to measure at the wheels.

No the car is not tuned. Its a stock jdm itr motor except js racing intake and apexi ws2 exhaust. Little worried about the vtec spike that is normal but i was just making sure i was in the right range of power that i should be making.

Dyno #'s are tough to compare anyway, each dyno reads totally different. For example, look at the graphs below - HP #'s are VERY different, yet the motor is essentially the same.

At any rate, looks like your stock ecu is doing a good job of keeping a nice flat torque curve and a fairly linear power band. Do a compression test and leakdown, that will tell you how strong the motor is.

My motor puts down 185whp peak on a dynojet, 168hp on a dynopack... so to answer your question about if you are putting down the right #'s, it is hard to say. I can guarantee you, you can find a shop that will have a dyno that will give you even better #'s.

The cool thing about a dyno is now you have a baseline if you decide to start modding more. If you change out parts, decide to tune, etc. You now have a starting point to see how the changes are either adding or subtracting power.

b20vtec, stock block, stock head, ITR intake manifold, ITR throttle body

Added cold air intake (upgraded from stock), added a header and exhaust

blue line is with ITR cams, red line is tuned with hondata

Good info...Compression test and leak down was performed. I had 240 on all 4 cylinders and less than 3% on all cylinders on leak down. Although comparing to other dyno graphs and the ones you have provided my torque does seem on the low side?

For a generally stock ITR your torque curve is right on. Good numbers.

I've seen most stock unmolested B18CR's (JDM & USDM) vary between 165-180whp. The JDM obviously at the higher side of that range but the number can vary depending on the health of the motor, type of dyno, and if the dyno is running a correction factor for climate conditions that day, that place.

173 sounds right on the money to me.

Technically, the "flywheel" numbers are WHP, at least thats what DD tells me

Anthony, FWIW...I think your motor is perfectly healthy and normal! Now go beat on it and enjoy it!!!
