Default 1987 CRX for $200. Is this a good deal or not?

Hey,

Here is what I can get. It is a 1987 Honda CRX 1.5L. I dont know the amount of KM on it but most likely around 200000km. The body is in great shape so is the interior. It is a 5 Speed. It has a new alternator, new distributator (sp?), new plugs and a few other new things.

Here are the problems. The back axel is broken. I think it is actuall seperated from the frame but still intact. It runs but has problems idling. It is leaking oil from the Rocker Gasket. It is also 1.5 hours away to get it and i will have to rent a trailer.

So the question is.... should I buy it? Is it worth picking it up and parting it out or selling it on eBay? I need to know if I should do this soon because there are a few other people looking at it.

Thanks

P.S. $200 CDN

I would pass...unless you know people who would want the parts...1g CRX's aren't as popular as the 2g, so you may have trouble selling stuff. I bought my 89 Si for 200 and it was wrecked...I have about 1200-1500 total so far on mine. So if you want to fix it up possibly use it as a track car...then it might be good...just my .02

i say GO FOR IT.
1g parts are sometimes hard to find. so you can get a bit more for the parts people will really need. i think you could make a decent profit.
supply and demand.

You should definately not buy it. Save up a few hundred more, and buy a 2nd gen. you will be glad you did
I already own a 2nd Gen CRX

if the body's good, why not buy it and drop in a brown-top ZC from a 1st gen. Integra? They did this in the January 2002 issue
of Sport Compact Car (to an 86 Civic Si). Fast and cheap, who can resist?

I'd say go for it too! Just head to the local junkyard and get another axle for it.

i got 87 crx si running for 100D. US but had to replace lower control arm.

but have been spending on that as i tossed the suspension and put in tok ills and gc coilovers in the rear plus suspension tech sways (waiting for crvtec motor) and the handling is unbelievable...plus light as you can "decontent" the bumper cores, sunroof motor and frame and rear wiper and motor plus a lot of the sound deadener so very light - gotta get a weight on this to tell ya..

As the Nike slogan goes Just do it. the 1G CRX is a fun car to drive. I found mine cheep as well ($700 canadian) sure i would like to get a 2g crx some day but i am having way to much fun with my 1G. But if you do decide to get it and part it out let me know. I am considering converting my DX into a SI on the exterior. plus i am lookin for a passanger side tailight.

DO NOT BUY IT

More than likely, the panhard rod mount has separated from the rest of the car. This is due to RUST. I have done this repair on my old 87 Si hybrid, and it is a bitch. the rear beam that is rusted out is about 240 bucks from the dealer. There are no aftermarket suppliers. after that, you need to have the entire rear beam cut out, and the new one welded in BY A PROFESSIONAL. This is what properly holds the entire rear supsension under the car. If it is off even slightly, the car will not drive properly(the rear alignment is not adjustable on that car).... If it has rust in that area, I'd bet money that the rest of the car is shot structurally as well... You need to check all four corners of both floorpans, rear wheel wells(like any honda), both doors(drains clog, and then they rust at the bottom), the fuel lines from the pump, into the body (they will rust out, and leak... about 400 bucks in parts to replace the lines, and then you need to gut the interior INCLUDING the entire dashboard to replace them... I've done it, it's not fun). And finally, check the rear panhard mount... Oh wait, it's already rusted out there... lol....

If you have any questions about first gens, hit me up... I've owned a few.. lol... BUT DON'T BUY THAT ONE!!!!!
