I have been doing a timing belt replacement on a 1993 accord ex 2.2 vtec. While i was gone my dad took apart the timing assembly without remembering to put the back bolt in to hold the balance shaft into place. Now putting the car back together we can't get the bolt/screwdriver to go through the milled part of the balance shaft to hold it into place.

Does this leave me having to break down the motor and remove the balance shaft?? I've always been a mistu guy and this is my first timing belt job on a honda, i've ran into this snag and am pretty much stranded until I can figure out how to get it done. The haynes manual explains how to block the shaft not what to do if it wasn't blocked and was moved.

Any tips would be greatly appreicated.

 

Set the engine at TDC. Remove the balancer belt. Rotate the rear shaft until a 6mm pin fits all the way in the hole. I use a screwdriver. Rotate the front balancer shaft until the groove on the shaft lines up with the mark on the block (straight up). reinstall the balancer belt. Do not overtighten the balacer belt. It has to be a little loose otherwise it will be noisy. Put her all back together. Your'e done.
