Default Reving only 5K on full stop neutral.

Hello there fellow H-T members. I'm new to the family and was just curious about knowing this for sure. I have a 2005 Honda Civic Ex Special Edition. Automatic Trans. Completely stock. I know it might just not be for this car because I've tried it on my brothers 2004 Acura TSX also.

What is it that won't let you rev up to 5K rpm when you are in a complete stop and in neutral. I mean this is not a problem, I've just been wondering what it was, I mean I can go like 5+ mph and rev to redline. Is it like a Launch Control? is it because it is an Automatic ?

If anyone have an answer for this. I'd appreciate it.

its in the computer.

there is no need to go past 5k while stopped.

its not a launch control.

it might be that it is an automatic. i will let you know in one month if my manual does it or not.

It's the ECU, and the fact that it's an automatic.

Yes they are right. its your ecu. plus you have an auto. its just a safety feature you have in your ecu.

Some cars with auto trans's have two rev limiters one is set so when you are in neutral or park to keep you from revving over a certain amount the second one is when you are in drive and that keeps you from over revving your motor. It's a factory ecu safety setting.

I want to say a rev limiter. But I agree with the above, its because its an automatic and the ECU. Is there really a need to rev over 5k rpm in neutral? Probably not. Most people like their engines intact so they restricted the rev limit.

My 5 speed '01 Civic EX's will bounce off the rev limiter at 7k rpms, it red lines at 6.7k and the tac shows 8.5k.
