Icon3 94 Civic EX 2 door RWD conversion??

I'm a proud owner of a 94 EX coupe Civic and have been researching on how I could convert it into a rear wheel drive. So far the only thing I've came up with is using parts from the S2000 including the engine and transmission, etc.

Does anyone know of any way to get this done??

I wouldn't recommend this unless you either have a crashed s2000 and a empty civic, or your just bored out of your mind with time and money on your hands. Massive Welding is required.

Yup, get ready to dish out more than you can cover cause this seems like a really expensive project. You might as well get a S2000 for the money you would be investing in the project.

yeah man everyone's input so far is pretty spot on. It is going to take tons and tons of custom fabrication that's why no one really hears about a rwd civic just because it takes WAY to much to complete. I mean you could always talk to the guy who made the civette he could probably tell you first hand how much it takes. There is always the possibility of taking the F20c and converting it to FWD I saw someone selling their eg on here not to long ago and it had that swap. looked good and I bet it was pretty beasty.

ive been thing about doing this to my hatchback, it would be bad ***, but as stated b4 ur gonna pretty much have to redo the whole interior floor, firewall, alot of fab and expensive! but if u could get a good deal on a crashed s2k, and have time, and knowledge it would be fun as hell to do!

no offense, but if you have to ask, you probably aren't up for it. Your best bet is to start with a donor car, a target car, a year or two of time, and a ton of mad welding skills.

I've seen a few of xxx Honda converted to RWD, and there are a few different approaches people take. All of them require some amount of welding.

1. D series 4WD - alright, it's not RWD, but it falls into this category. Probably requires the least amount of fab. You need a D series engine, a 88-91 4WD transmission, differential, probably rear spindles at the least. You're stuck with D series. A H-T member was running a turbo 4WD DelSol as a rally car that was pretty cool.

2. Rear Engine - Someone did a rear engine H22 Integra, and a guy local to me has a rear engine Del Sol, that as far as I know, has never been running reliably. Lots of fab, including ductwork and wiring to keep battery and radiator up front. Custom header and exhaust. Cut out rear floor and reinforce. Custom mounts. Then, use a FWD engine and transmission of your choice, only in the back.

3. Front engine / RWD. Probably even more fab, but it seems like I've seen a few more of these, including the Civette, V8 Prelude, and V8 CRX. Requires a ton of fab, so go big or go home. So much fab that most people crazy enough to do this don't bother running a Honda 4 cylinder. You'll be modding firewall, trans tunnel, exhaust, rear floor, all suspension, etc. See the Civette thread to get a good idea of how crazy it really is.

You're paying a shop 25K to do a RWD Civic? Why not make a good down payment on a house? Or pay 20K for a used GTO and have a 400HP RWD car that's reliable?

Usually, I hate questions like that crudding up peoples' build threads, but I've never seen the wisdom of paying some crazy amount of money for something like this.

If it comes out clean though, I might change my mind. Post pics.

I hate to say it (because I don't want to sound like a douche, but I agree with this guy.

Being the owner of "civette", I would say that he is qualified to make that statement.

BTW, props on the civette, I saw it at IA, seems like a serious project.

Why would you pay someone to do something like this? I guess to me it makes more sense to me for the owner to put as much into it as possible so that later on down the line when things go wrong there's someone available that knows what's going on with the car!
