higher milage rsx ok?
hey guys, im in the market for an rsx. unfortunatly my budget has me looking at like 02-03 non type s' with higher milage. im going to look at one soon that has 162xxx on it. the body seems to be good from pictures but ill find out when i get there.
my question is: how well does the K series hold up on milage (assuming regular maintenance)? my old d16y8 had 280xxx on it before i pulled it out and it ran like a champ.
thanks for any insite guys

They are very solid cars but try to get some sort of service history. Any car at this age will have the possibility of issues around the corner; A/C, transmission, ball joints, bushings, wheel bearings etc. If you live in an area where you have to pass emissions, catalytic converters begin to fail at this age. Although not on the scheduled service menu for this car, this is the age when some timing chains fail, I'd def jump on this if it is manual transmission that has had the timing set done recently. If it has been well maintained it will last a long time.
the car is a manual and im definatly going to look at it. i know a timing chain is harder to do then a belt so if it needs to be done i could prob get one of the techs to do it for me since i work at honda. when i get there ill check the oil level/color and take off the oil cap with it running to see if there is excessive blow by. im hoping there isnt dumb stuff like leaks or anything. alot of the car should be the same as an EP3 right?

I don't think you should worry about the timing chain because they should last the life of the vehicle i've heard.I would settle for an EP because for that price you could find one with lower miles.
i noticed that when shopping the ep3 went for around 1-2 less then a base rsx with higher milage. im not really a fan of the ep3's back end or how the shifter is in the dash. i would settle if it was a good deal, but i think i like the rsx better.

Key word is should. We have seen a couple of TSXs and 1 RSX with chain failures around the 170K mark here at the dealership. Tensioners fail, chains stretch, gears wear, they are not immune to failure
If you're on a tight budget I wouldn't suggest getting an RSX...and if you were to get one on a tight budget, you certainly wouldn't want anything wrong with it or anything that will arise problems in the near future because that will just lead to more money being spent. I also suggest getting a 98-01 GSR...I had a 98 and it was very reliable...also, most of the parts are cheaper...from what i've observed.
^parts are cheaper, but it's a worse car in every way. the rsx interior is MUCH nicer than the integra interior, it has a stronger engine, better tranny, etc. if i didn't buy my si i'd probably have gotten an 05-06 rsx instead, the integra just doesn't compare (my previous car).
