New stage 3 clutch, road trip OK for break in?
Whats up all. Just bought a stage 3 clutch, 8lb flywheel which should be here tomorrow or Friday. Anyway, I'm planning on driving this car from San Diego to Reno next week (pretty much right after I road test the clutch if I do install it) which is 637 miles roughly.
My thought is this drive would be fine and might even be better for breaking in the new clutch as opposed to city driving around San Diego.
Mostly I'm bored and I wanted to open up to an INTELLIGENT conversation about your thoughts on this. i.e. in your opinion would a long road trip in a single day be better to "ease" the clutch & flywheel in to its break in period, or do you think city driving with more engagement/disengagement would be better overall.

itll be fine, actually good for it. I cant remember how long they suggest a break-in. I think act suggest 800miles? but not sure. Just driving it will be good, starting and stopping will break it in nice. They just dont want you to go grabbing gears at 7k or well grabbing gear period. just drive it normal, itll be good for and break it in quick
Clutches need to be broke in in stop and go traffic. Other wise you will "glaze" the clutch. I dont get on the highway with a new clutch for atleast 200 miles. I would drive it around town for a while the day be for you leave
You can drive it on the freeway no problem. just be easy with it and kinda ride the clutch out from light to light just a little bit. this is what i do and it breaks it in nice and soft. no power shifting or popping the clutch though.
On the highway the clutch wont even be used. its only used when city driving. unless your down shifting to 4th and back to 5th for fun lol.
I drove mine on the highway after 5 miles on new clutch. and the clutch break in period is 500 miles.

More or less I'd be looking at putting 100-200 miles city driving on the new clutch before departing, just to get past the initial stages of the break in. Plus taking the I-5 through LA, then Sac Town will most likely cause me to hit a little traffic at the very least. And since Cali drivers don't drive like the Chi-Town boys I'm sure I will be doing plenty of shifting to get around dumb *** soccer moms doing the speed limit in the fast lane.

Highway miles don't count as break-in miles - period.
The break-in mileage needs to be city type driving, as in stop and go action where you're actually USING the clutch.
