Default How to clean coolant passages and cylinders

hi everyone, i just got this civic dx with a blown headgasket.
i pulled the head off and noticed stray pieces of old headgasket in the coolant passages around the cylinders. also when i removed the water pump theres a nasty green slime sitting in the opening. what the best way to clean out the coolant passages in the block? soap and water?

should i also put soap and water in the cylinders to clean the cylinder walls, then just turn the motor over to pump the water out?

any advice would be greatly apprecieted

You can buy a coolant flush kit I believe. Soap and water doesn't sound too good with the cylinders though. Try maybe using a magnet to get the headgasket pieces out.

coolant flush won't help that

a magnet might, and don't touch the cylinder walls, why would you think they need to be cleaned? are the deposits or build up?
