94 Accord stutter and bogging engine
I have no clue as to what is wrong with my 1994 Honda Accord 2.2L VTEC EX Coupe. I've about wore this car out it seems like... It currently has 255K miles, but i've taken good care of it. My problem is that I pumped 5 gallons of gas into my car last Thursday night... no big deal, i've gotten gas from there a bunch. it's at least 10% ethanol, but that shouldn't matter... Well, the next morning, I'm going on my Mon-FRI normal trip of about 7 miles to class... Pulling out of my driveway, my car began to bog down/stutter. The RPM's increased and it went away. It seemed to mainly be a problem during take off only. I was able to drive about 30 miles with it in that shape and then i was forced to pull off the road because it began to lose power and bog no matter what the RPM. I popped the hood and noticed i could see the catalytic converter and it was glowing red hot. I let it cool down and was able to make it 2 miles and then had to pull off again, only this time i'd have to call for a tow truck. Now, it's setting in my driveway unable to move. I can start it and keep the motor alive while it "chokes" and bogs and vibrates badly. If i put it in drive, turn the AC on or anything like that, it'll bog down and cut off. My water pump began to go out 2 weeks ago and i've been having to add fluid every other day. I checked my oil and it looked perfectly ok and had no signs of having water in it. I purchased a new dis. cap and rotor button, installed new spark plugs(Bosch plat. 2), I've checked for spark at every cylinder, I've ordered a new water pump, timing belt, radiator, and catalytic converter... haven't had them installed yet though. The tow guy said he had a similar problem on his 96 Accord and said it was his catalytic converter so i thought well maybe it could be mine.... My car does have a lot of miles on it and it's never been changed. My problem is... i removed the O2 sensor to see if the cat. converter was really the problem, but it did the same with the O2 sensor removed. And it seems like my car idle/runs(not moves) better at a higher RPM. Like in park reving the engine makes it act more normal. Has anyone else had a problem like this?? What else besides a bad/melted cat. converter could it be?? It was showing no signs the night before on the way home after putting in 5 Gal of that murphey's gas station 87 OCT.... but as soon as i pulled out of my driveway the next morning, my car began to act this way and bog/stutter. Any ideas??
