97 Stock Accord engine problems
My brother has a stock 1997 Accord with 206K. He dropped it off to me for an overheating issue. When he brought it to me it was hot, but not past the "H", just running very warm. I let it sit and then put some coolant in it. I restarted the car and discovered a bad heater hose. Replaced it. While I had it we put some wheel bearings in it, carrier bearing and brake rotor. I had replaced the transmission about a week ago due to a sloppy differential. He came to pick it up, we were going to go for a test drive and he started the car and it was running very rough. I pulled the plugs and the oil seals were leaking, cleaned the oil and verified spark on all cylinders, nice and blue/white spark. I did a compression check...all running 195-210. I've verified injector pulse with a noid light on all cylinders. I've pulled the injectors out and moved them around and verified the injector filters aren't clogged. I've done a leak down check. I've verified (by unplugging the injectors) that #2 and 3 cylinders are not firing. The car seems to be running on two cylinders the best I can tell. I've checked the timing and it's at TDC. One last thing to mention...we did take the car for a test drive, even on two cylinders. We went around the block a time or two and came back, put the car in the air only to find the catalytic converter glowing orange. I was also having a misfire so I figured the cat had gone bad. I removed the catalyst material and put an O2 extender in the the secondary O2 hole to fool the ECU so I don't get a CEL. I was also getting a backfire through the air box. I'm thinking the #2 and 3 injectors might be stuck wide open, but I rotated the injectors (moved #4 to the number 1 position and moved the rest down one) and I continue to have nothing on #2 and3. As I have mentioned I've verified electrical pulse with a noid light. I'm going to start over and see if I've missed anything. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Never mind, stupid mistake. #2 and 3 plug wires were reversed. Some time ago my brother had #3 wire go bad. The only wire I had at the time was a left over #2, so I had two wires the same length. I reversed them at some point causing all these problems, lack of firing and dumping excess fuel to the converter causing it to glow orange. Well, good times! Thanks again.
