EF won't start in the sun.
Ok guys people have told me that EF's will have a lot of issues starting on hot days or when parked in the sun for a while. Then it happened to me today. It wouldn't start for an hour. Spark, fuel, and everything else looks good. I would like to know if anyone out there knows what causes this. I didn't get any CEL or codes. Why does this happen to our cars? If anyone out there knows the real reason for this please tell me. It normally starts right up but this was the first hot day I tried to start it.
i cant remember if its the main relay or the fuel relay under your dash.. its just old the soldier (spelling) breaks loose so when its hot the metal tang breaks contact and when its cold it stays conected
Its the Main Fuel Relay so hes right with both and the solder is just old so it needs taken apart and re soldered.
Main relay if possible remove the 10mm bolt that holds it and the clip and take it inside with you to avoid the heat, if not resolder it.
If there is a code it is usually code 16,

It is about 40 dollars on majestic probably 60+ if you buy it locally if you don't want to mess with it

sounds like you guys got it all figured out! congrats.
however.. let me share an experience of mine. One day I parked at the train station after work to go to school.. came back, car was hot (from sitting in the sun) and it wouldnt start at first.. when it did, it idled real rough and then died.. tried again and everyhting was fine. I was later told by a tech at work that the fuel in the lines could have 'evaporated' a lil bit causing it to start rough at first..
now I turn the key to on for a few seconds before I crank it allowing the fuel pump to prime and do its thing and it hasnt happened since
just thought id share

thank you guys so much for your help. I couldn't start the car for an hour yesterday, it would crank it just wouldn't start. I will have my brother re do the main relay and hopefully that will help. Thanks again.
Like everyone has stated check the Main Relay. I have ran into that same issue with my car not starting in the sun. You can repair it by re-flowing the solder on the cracked joints. Or just get a new one.
