Default sohc power! .57 trim bullseye powered d16y7 20~25psi

ok here we go my car started out as a 99 ex that was completely abused.
It had nasty lambo doors and a body kit to top it all off! The last owner did one cool thing, a greddy turbo kit, but that all came off for bigger and better things!
When i recieved the car the first thing i did was take off the nasty body kit and removed the lambo door kits.
The car now sits much prettier!

i sold the turbo kit for 950.00
engine for 450
then started on my build, a 99 d16y7 shortblock with a y8 head
i got some used rods 5394-aho eagle rods which were a combo deal that included some srp 9:1 pistons the were 20 over but had one bad piston BUt ordered one new from srp which was 145.00

now i put acl rod/main/thrust washers in 90.00
Took a trip to Grainger and bought some devcon liquid filled alluminum for 55.00
here is what she looks like now

here is a parts breakdown
engine~free needed rebuild
rods and pistons~150.00
new piston from srp~145.
new piston rings from srp~125.
acl rod/main/thrust washers ~90.
arp head studs~110.00
head gasket~45.00
intake gasket~9.00
turbo manifold~90.
bullseye power v-band turbo .57 trim~700.00
-8 an fitting for turbo oil return~8.00
golden eagle oil sandwich~84.00
Tail 38mm wastegate with 10psi spring~229.00
1000cc injectors~310
oil feed line~36.00
3" v-band assembly~88.00
block and head machine work at V Village in kcmo 150.00
obx lsd (used) 275.00
center force clutch~225.00
thats it for now still waiting on my tail wastegate and the oil sandwich to get in, as well as the guys at modified by KC to get my ecu chipped. Then its on like donkey kong!
shooting for 350whp @20~25 psi
let me know what you guys think

The only thing better than a sohc build - saving TONS on lightly used parts. The only thing that makes me cringe is the HG price - $30/shipped from an online dealership.

Nice setup. One thing I have a problem with is keeping tabs on how much Ive spent. Where did you source the turbo from?

Best of luck. I'll be running the same turbo but with the SS .55 a/r turbine housing instead.

Looking good and it should not take that much boost to get you there. And if you payed 700 for a BW 57 trim you got raped go auto sells em for under 600. Though the tag says S256 so who knows........

Looks good!

Why didnt you flip the turbo around and used less piping? With that downpipe you are obviously not running A/C.

and yes the turbo is a bullseye power S256 .57 trim
just got the rest of my parts in so should have it on the dyno within the next week!!

An S256 is not a 57 trim. I'm sorry, but you have received incorrect information. Your dealer has tagged your turbocharger wrong. THe Bullseye 57 trim is the same unit used as the garrett (compressor wheel) but uses a larger p-trim exhaust wheel, unless it was switched to the o-trim older style wheel.

Well i am sad to say the motor is no longer running. i had it on the dyno and the head gasket blew. needless to say i drove it home anyways (stupid idea) got it all torn down and all four pistons are ate up from the antifreeze will post pics when i get them uploaded. it blew the head gasket in all four cylinders only on the intake side. kinda wierd, some people i have shown the head gasket to and the pistons said that it blew the head gasket form pre-detonation.
i had a new oem head gasket
tourqed the head to 70 ft lbs (arp head studs)
was running chrome pro
also the turbo is freaking waaaayy to big for my car ( exhaust housing is a a/r 70)
so i am trying to trade for a .55 housing to get my car to spool.
@ 8000 rpm with the boost controller turned 9 clicks it would only make 16 psi
we turned it more but we made no more boost. i will keep everyone updated, on the new setup

Those pistons were probably done before you drove it home

What gas were you using and how much boost?

What head work was done and what cam were you using?

dang, sorry to hear that. I was hopeful to see this beast come to life. BTW why not go with vitara pistons? here's a deal I would hop on if I had a single cam

My condolences on your engine's demise. I'm sure you'll get it back on the road, but a bit of caution. Simply changing the housing from a .70-.55A/R isn't going to do the trick for what you need. A common issue on the older series 57trims (especially for hondas) is that they use a very large p-trim wheel (2.944" wheel diameter), unlike the Garrett versions of the 57 trim that use a smaller 2.55" wheel diameter. I've had to change a few out to a different wheel altogther in the .55A/R in order for the characteristics of the turbo to perform correctly.

yes the pistons were prob done before i left.
i was using 91 pump gas
no head work and stock cam.
my buddy ran a 12.0 with stock head/cam and 29 psi, but was on e-85
next engine is 8:1 srp with no devcon, this time i only plan on running a max of 20 psi.. we will see
