Default 1/4 times for my R last night

well last night i went to the track at Virginia Motorsports Park for a test and tune. I had just installed my JDM DC 4-1 SS header and test pipe onto my 1998 ITR so i was hoping for some decent times even though it was about 90 degrees. Last time i ran it i had a aem short ram intake and catback exhaust and i ran a 15.5 Now i have an aem cai, header, testpipe, and the catback..and of course some suspension mods..i played around with a few different launch points, etc to see what i could turn and my best was a 14.820 at 94.02mph with a 60ft of 2.290 and my other decent run was 14.896 at 94.88mph with a 60ft of 2.378. the first time was when i launched at around 4k rpm and then seconed was around 3500. I just need some more time to test different launches and stuff i guess and maybe some cooler weather would help. let me know what yall think..please dont joke haha

Umm, yeah i think you need either better weather or less elevation cause those seem really high times, what did you shift at? And i ussually launch at like 5000-5500 rpms on nice roads like ashphalt....spins a bit then goes nicely into vtec most of the time...

There sure is room for ALOT of improvement....like no offence but ive seen first time draggers with 100% stock itrs doing 14.7-14.9....and ive also seen a 14.4-14.5 on a stock one with a really good driver and its broken in....i have a slip for one that did 14.2 with just AEM CAI and spare tire removed, but who knows maybe you have a weaker engine cause after those mods, you should be doing 13's even but thats considering your a really good driver, well just practice and always go to that redline at 8500 rpms and your times should improve then post them again next time

Oh also those stokc times are bs from the magazines, they also said that the 2000 s2000's ran like 14.2-14.3 which was bull because when they ran it they shifted at like 8300 rpms and the redline was 9000, in 2001 they ran it a 13.8 and thats still not the best time for it, but close i guess...same with itrs they say the 97-98 did like a 15.2 or something and even the 2000-2001 they did a 14.7 but its still not the best time cause they don't really break those cars in and the type r will gain some whp in the first 20000 kms ....

Yeah launching at 6 means you should take some psi out of the stock tires...make it like 30 or something and im sure it will still spin like crazy but it will be better and you gotta learn some throttle control for that, but you'll soon see the different tricks of the trade lol

Really, thats a great time , yours isn't much slower i don't think, if you really wanna get sneaky get new cams, cause thats the only difference between 98's and 2000+'s ...

What is your elevation and temperature at the time?

Hot weather = performance

lower tires to 30psi? thats not very much? i ride around with 30 psi and at auto x or drag strip, i run atleast mid 20's! and 6k launch? thats nothing i would try unless you were running slicks!!

dude i would not be upset, you droped almost a full second with some bolt ons and more pratice! i am sure with little more experince you will be in mid 14s all day! which is fast for a "r" !!! good luck, eric

With a 2.2 60ft you should be in the mid 14's. Since you just learned how to drive a manual, you didn't do too bad. At least you got into the 14's, I've seen alot of new drivers stuck in the 15's.

Well i have 30 psi in the stock tires by the way, its better than the 35 psi it comes with. Yeah those little mods and some practice did take a good amount off but, i think he ment those times were from a magazine, cause in 97-98 they ran some weird times in the 15's for some reason, im sure with some practice you will be mid to low 14's easy...

Also i dunno if its my imagination or what but why do the 2000-2001 itrs seem to run such better times, is there really a huge difference? I just think its the drivers or maybe the elevation and weather...but it seems modded 2000+ ones run better....

22 psi? and you spun at 6k? thats really weird at 30 psi i already have to launch at like 5000 at least for no bogging, and like 5300-5500 to get a nice launch for it to be at like at 6000 after the spinning....if i went 22 psi stock tires on a nice smooth road id be revving to like 6500....unless your track is crappy to hook on , but i dunno...

those times are ok!?!?!? not good though,.. Stock our ITR Ran 15.2 at 3000 feet above sea level and 90 farenheit.... the correct sea level time is 14.6 or something... anyways drop your tire pressure to mid 20's launch at 4.5K to 5K and feather the clutch out, if you dump it you screwed.... featheriing does cause wear but your launches will be much better....

???

20 something psi for autocross? I run 40 psi up front and 44 in the rear for autocross. For drag, I run 26 psi or lower depending on tire.
