Default Cutting a key for a Honda Odessey, will it work?

Allright, I need to get an extra key cut because my coupe is not being used right now since I'm doing body work and and what not on it. I need to get an extra key cut for my moms 2000 Honda Odessey so I can drive it. Lol. I asked if I could get a ket cut for it and I was told I can't because Honda keys, the newer ones have a special "chip" in them. If you just get a normal key cut without that "chip" the car will start but will shut off after 10 seconds and then you'll have to get a Honda dealer to reprogram your car. Is this true?
