Default Y8 help needed: Oil light

I just changed the oil in my 98 civic ex and the oil light is coming on. Car has 88k miles, stock d16Y8, greddy turbo @ 5psi, oil cooler with remote filter. It has not been consuming oil.

Here's what I did:
I drained the oil from the pan, replaced the bolt.
Removed the filter and let the oil drain
Fiddled with installing the new oil filter (Mobil1 extended performance) in the remote location because I recently bought the car and this is the first oil change since owning it.
Added mobil1 extended performance 5w30
checked the oil level after it was back on the ground - A little high
Started it up, oil light stayed on so I shut it off after 5 seconds. Checked the owners manual and it said that it should go off within 10 seconds.
I started it back up, oil light stayed on so I shut it down at 9 seconds.
I removed the oil cap, started it up, light went off after 4-5 seconds.
Everything seemed OK so I went for a drive. No problems.
Parked the car for the night.

This morning, I started the car to go to work, oil light came on so I shut it down.
Checked the oil and oil level was a little above full on the dipstick.
I removed the oil cap, light went off after 5-7 seconds.
I replaced the oil cap, got in the car, started to back out of the garage and the oil light came on again. I shut it off and left it.

It seems that oil pump and rod bearing failures are somewhat common with the Y8.

The car has ES mount inserts, and the intercooler piping is a bit tight so I don't know if something is rubbing due to the vibration or if it's truly coming from the bottom end.

How can I check to see if the oil pump failed?
To check rod bearings, I pull the pan and look for damage/pieces of metal?
Could it be an issue with the oil pressure sensor? Im thinking not since the light went off twice after removing the cap.
Could it be something related to the oil cooler/remote oil filter?

I've owned a number of hondas and have performed motor swaps, turbo installs, clutch replacement, suspension, exahust, etc., so I have at least basic mechanical skills.
I've never had any issues like this, so Im not familiar with all the things to check. I want to go about this methodically and not just tear into it based on a hunch.

Any suggestions on where to start?

dumb possibility, but did you check the stock oil pressure sensor? If the connector is loose, the sensor has crud in it, or the wiring from the sensor back to the ecu is faulty, that could explain an intermittant oil pressure light. Sometimes it's the stupid little things that cause the greatest headaches.

to check oil pressure you will need an oil pressure gauge.

if it was my car i would be lazy and just replace (or look at) the oil sender unit. it is right above your oil filter area and has one wire coming out of it. just my 2 cents

if that doenst solve the problem then you need to stop driving the car and diagnois it properly. could be bearings, oil pump.

The civic sat in the garage all last week, until I had time to check it out on Saturday. Sometimes it's the silliest things that cause problems.
I replaced the oil filter with a stock replacement mobil1 extended performance filter, but the filter used with the oil cooler/remote oil filter setup I have is slightly different. Where the mobil1 filter has a rubber gasket behind holes around the face of the filter opening, the filter that was on the car initially had no rubber gasket. I replaced the filter with a new one, just like what was on there initially, started the car, and the oil light went off immediately. I don't know if the culprit was the filter design, or maybe the mobil1 filter was bad, but ultimately, replacing the oil filter resolved the problem.
