my buddy has a ls block with a worked b16 head. i did a compression test because he said the car is smoking. i got 190 220 215 195. the two cylinders with lower numbers had black spark plugs. i told him it looked like he was running way rich. he thinks he needs rings. i told him to get the car tuned and if it ends up needing rings we'd do them and it should be a done deal. what do you think?

 

what color is the smoke??? when it does smoke, is it all the time or just under heavy acceleration??? what does it smell like??? are you burning oil??? are you burning coolant???

 

it was dark but id swear it was black smoke blowing past the flashlight. it smokes a tiny bit while being good to it and heavier while beating on it. it dosent smell like oil or gas honestly. i dont know about his oil consumption. im sure its not a head gasket.

 

sounds like a fuel issue.
check for vaccum leak, 02 sensor,pcv valve, and tune would be pretty cheap to do b4 you got ripping apart the engine
