My dohc zc has been running like crap for a long time, and i've finally gotten time to try to work on it. It's been running really rich, and is pretty much a turd. I have a DOHC ZC, Si trans, ricer intake, and 2 1/4" exhaust, no cat, just a muffler. I'm running a pm6 ecu, since my pg7 got fried last winter (it ran the same way with both). I used to have a B18A swap in the car and it ran perfect, but I sold it and swapped the ZC back into it. Lately i've changed o2 sensor and fpr, and it did nothing. I've tried using different octane gasses (87, 89, 91). I have no CEL's on. I retimed it last winter. My exhaust has been broke (weld at the back of the test pipe broke, has a flexpipe bandaging it till I can get it welded back together (but it ran like this before that also). I was wondering what else I could do to fix it? And also how bad is it to keep driving it like this (I have been for months)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing has been bugging me for a long time.

 

what do your plugs look like? Also dist. cap/rotor... They look worn out? if so replace and try again... def. check the plugs though... cant tell ya how many electrodes iv'e cooked off at high rpm's with a stock d16z

 

Which plugs would work best... right now i'm running the cheapest NGKs for a crx si... I'm assuming u need 89 teg wires, dist cap and rotor? If not lmk...

 

To be honest im running all stock stuff and a fifty shot of nitrous... problem free. Not too sure what the best setup for you would be, but ngk plugs are good... Im not really asking you what you have in your car... I'm asking what the condition of the ignition components looks like

 

also did u happen to bend a plug wire when installing? if you did bend one too much, you could have caused wayy too much resistance in that wire... I'd use a ohm meter and check each wire's resistance to ensure that they are all close to the same.

 

I would start by getting the correct ecu for your motor which is a pm7. ZC's are known for running rich on PM6 ecu's check out the FAQ section on thezcr.com

 

What are stock dohc zc's supposed to get for mpg? I would have gotten a pm7 long time ago, if I could find one that wasnt stupid expensive... this is just my beater, dont wanna spend anymore than I have to... I'd rather be able to dump my money into my project crx

 

Idk if this makes any difference but I currently have injectors out of a OBD0 B18A1 in it... I blew an injector out long time ago and switched the ones that were in it with the ones out of the ls swap I had in it...
