Default Went to the track for first time, b16 EF, opinions needed

it was a warm night, around 87. keep in mind this was my first time to the track and first time launching the car. 15" rota SS with Nitto nt450 rubber. 1st gen b16 with CAI, Dc header, Greddy catback.

First Run (35psi tire pressure)
kinda feathered, but started too low to begin with

60ft 2.485
1/8 10.235@70.48
1/4 15.683@90.39

Second Run (accidentally dropped tire pressure to 15psi )
revved to about 5k and dropped it
tried to run out 3rd gear, but bounced off the rev limiter 15 yards before the line.

60ft 2.520
1/8 10.495@69.94
1/4 16.003@88.71

3rd Run (Tire pressure to 24 psi)
Revved to 5k and tried to slowly let out

60ft 2.445
1/8 10.125@71.34
1/4 15.541@90.66

ran 2 foxbodies, hatch ran 15.191, 'vert ran a 14.997 (said it ran a 14.7 when it was auto, did a manual conversion)

So, is this car just slow or does it have potential if I can get those 60ft times down? I'm gonna try and pick up some falken azenis for the fronts, or maybe even a drag radial. I'm about to invest in a turbo in a little bit here (bored and sleeved block too).

BTW: this was at Cecil County Dragway in MD

Not bad, just needs practice. I'm still stuck in the 14.6 doldrums myself (B16A w/ AEM CAI, stock exhaust, stock manifold)

1st run: 14.7 @ 95
2nd run: 14.7 @ 95
3rd run: 14.6 @ 95

Argh.

*edit* by the way, those 60's aren't too hot... what's your technique? I'm doing a mild spin just before and launching at about 3500rpm, getting high 2.2s to low 2.3s usually

*edit again* Holy crap those 1/8th times are high... I'm doing 9.4-9.7 on average

yeah I'm wondering if my motor is just tired or something. 1st gear just isnt strong enough to pull me through the powerband fast enough. I removed my spare tire, etc., I'm gonna try and get the car weighed to see where I'm at with that.

I've been to cecil county. I ran a 15.9, 15.4, 15.6, and then I ran a 14.9. It's all in the launch.

We dropped a 100% stock B16A1 swap into my friends CRX DX... and on small slicks it went 13.80@101mph. Not a single bolton other than a muffler.

That's either bullshit or a very good run

heh. That would be the best time I've ever seen from a stock swap.

he prolly forgot to add that it had just been overhauled b4 droppin it in. B16s dont run that fast stock in CRXs. specially A1s.

Practice practice practice. You'll be able to get 2.2 60ft times which should bring you to low 15s or high 14s on a good day. Drop ur tire pressure to 20-22psi.

yeah..they especially don't trap 101 mph....

I'm going to call BS on this being 'completey stock'....with stock exhaust too?

Anybody else going to call BS?

*raises hand*

Too polite to call BS but...............maybe the car only weighs 1400??? A stock B16a will get a 1400 lb car to 100 mph

What do you guys think I should do for tires? Look for a pair of Drag Radials? What are the good brands/models? What would they run me?

Also, my friend has some balding 14" steelies. You think they would be worth trying at the track if I dont get my hands on some DR for cheap? I have a lsd in my tranny too, all I did was spin the nitto's like they were wet. No, I didnt drive through the water spot first

Btw - I cannot wait to go again. I had a lot of fun. Hopefully the next time I'll have better tires and a Skunk2 IM installed.

90 mph is easily a low 15 second run. just work on the launch and you could easily run low 15's.

and i also call BS on the stock b16 runnin 13's. there's no way.
