Default OT: Here We Go Again....Be Nice!!!

Dealer calls me today about leasing an 2002 S2K for a payment slightly less than my R. I know, I know.....this topic usually starts a freakin' war, but this is serious. There are quite a few guys on this board who know me personally, and I only ask the serious questions, for the R faithful's opinions. Here are my thoughts!!

I love my R. It can be tracked, daily driven, and carries my drums, and 3 additional passengers if necessary. It is rare, in Ohio, black R's are extremely rare. However, my R gets a lot of unwanted attention, all of the time. I am always on guard.

The S2K, as we all know and revere, is an awesome machine. The Suzuka Blue is sharp as well. However, it is extremely limited in use. Two seats, which is cool, but for 30k, regardless of lease payment, is a lot of money for a "big boys" toy. It is definitely track worthy, carries no cargo, and I am not sure if it gets the "unwanted attention" as our R's so heavily receive.

Thoughts guys.......Be Nice

my brother drives a S2K, i drive an R...you really can't go wrong with either one in terms of fun to drive quotient...it alls boils down to why you bought an R in the first place...me the R is my fifth integra ...i've owned a 87 RS, 91 GS, 94 GSR, 98 #773(RIP)... 98 #349 currently...i'm REALLY partial to integras

After reading what you wrote (twice), it sounds like your mind is already made up, and you are trying to talk yourself into the S2K. Me personally, I'd take the R hands down.. Stick with your gut instinct.

My sister has an s2k. It is a great machine and very fun to drive but I would still take my R over it. Goodluck with making your decision.

I've also driven the S2000.

I am still always impressed so much with just how raw and Real the ITR is in comparison and in general.

I still do love though, how the Miata feels.
Guess what?
I love the aforementioned in the following order:

1. ITR
2. MIATA
3. S2000

Get the picture?

A.

Man, stick with the R, it's fun, you can track it and carry your drums and three people. It's a lot more practical. The S2K is fun, and the blue is nice, but also, when you finish your payments, you own the R (correct me if I am wrong), howeer, the S2K is just a lease.

I live in CA, and I know how you feel about the attention. If my car is ever stolen, I will not get another one, but that is the only way that I would ever give it up. Read: I will not sacrifice it willingly.

Stick with the ITR. S2000 is a great car, but requires the use of a 2nd vehicle for utility.

Well, well, well...the old bug again. I can't get rid of it either!
You know that. Man, lets go out to BW3's sometime to talk about it.
Or stop by on Sunday to see the R, and chat.

Me, I'm still nervous about the RWD, I like the retard proof FWD that I have now!!
I'm not saying I can drive the R fast, just that I feel more comfortable pushing it.
I like the top down in the S2K, and knowing you Witt, you've got to be all over that.

I also have a feeling that the S2K will be harder to make go fast. Unless you just slap on Vortech or Comptech boost.

Rim selection sucks for the car, if you care to keep a correct offset, you're basically limited to JDM 16", volk CE28N's, Mugen MF10's...NOT even Spoons fit good!

Umm...visibility sucks w/ the top up, I get sunburnt w/ the top down.

Yet I still want one??? Yes I do! Why, I guess, it's just fun to drive, and hopefully
I don't put it in a ditch.

Not sure if anything helped or not, but stop by sometime to say hi, we can sort this out, and make for sale signs together

ohh yeah the mighty S2K I love that car my brother has one and I drive it quite frequently so yeah I think I would get laid a lot more if I had one
I mean bitches jock you everywhere I definitely think the S2k gets more attention
+ faster + convertible + hella fun to drive + higher insurance, lease you need a higher coverage too so if you think you can still afford it get it
but I just can't imagine being with out my R ITR fo life!! it must be in my blood or somethin

Man, I know!! I agree with everyone on this post, even if it seemed I had made up my mind. I was almost being hypocritical because I told someone once on this board never to give up the R, regardless of what else you get. I hate the attention because I want bash in every jerk I see peaking through my windows. I also love that our cars, regardless of the haters and attention, are still one of the baddest machines on the road. The S2K is nice. But, I think I would get board with it. I still love the looks of our R's, and they are even nicer to build awesome projects from. Someone here had an interesting comparison, and I think them for it, the S2K, although sweet, is basically similar to a 30K+ Miata. So, guys, you are all awesome, and Troy, you and I need to get together soon, but I think I may look into a CRV or Civic just to have as a daily driver and drum hauler, and start keeping the R in its place, the garage and the track. Thanks dudes.....beers for everyone!!!

I wish I could have gone to Pittsburgh today....those dudes enjoying a Dyno right about now! Next time Pitt R's.

True Story: A great friend of mine sold his ITR thinking to get an S2000, which he thought might be a bit of an upgrade. He owned the S2000 for a year and never was really happy with it - it became just a car to him and certainly not what the R was. He sold the S2000 and now drives a WRX wagon... he asks me if he can buy my R almost every week.

Totally agree with this statement. Especially living in Ohio (shitty winters) you're gonna need another car, if you don't already have one. They are beautfiul cars, but I personally would stick with the R. For your situation, the R seems to fit all of your needs perfectly:daily transportation, cargo space, performance. If I live in Cali for Florida I think I would definitely want an S2k.. Good luck

Have you thought of insurance implications??

Your insurance will be a lot higher for the S2K.

Ive never owned both vehicles in my lifetime. However, I have driven both on a daily basis for a few months at a time.

I would for sure get keep the ITR. Like a few others have said, its more practical and IMO, it has more potential within your budget to be a fast track car/ daily driven car.

Nordscheife lap times:
S2000 - 8:39
ITR - 8:43

I'll still keep the ITR..

Wow, I thought I was the only guy in the world who would take a Miata over an S2000.

Good to know I'm not alone.

Not to say that I don't like the S2000. It's just not quite what I had hoped it to be.

you said lease an s2000? When you are done leasing it and it's time to turn it in, I'll come pick you up and give you a ride home in my owned Type R while you have nothing to show after 3 years....Not smart - keep the ITR

Take it from someone who almost traded my integra and cash for a new s2k....had my friend drive my integra (my mods are below) and I was test driving the s2k, straight line the s2k was quick but my integra put at least 3-4 carlengths on me by the end of third gear according to my eyes and his good driving, no torque down low, what 4 cylinder honda engine does, power from 6000 and up is great. Its a great car put i think my integra is still more fun to drive.....plus the sound and pull with JUN III cams and high compression is sick.

Miata + turbo...
Years ago I had my *** handed to me by a grey-haired, old fart in a dead-stock looking new Miata. He pulled over down the road and told me I "never had a chance." Turns out he had a Bell Engineering turbo kit on it. The parts under the hood were so nice they looked just like I'd expect if it had come from the factory that way. Not flashy at all. From the outside you would never know it wasn't stock, but he claimed it ran 13.2 in the 1/4.

As a side note, he totally took me by surprise, as I wasn't at all expecting him to drop the hammer (and even years ago in my youthful stupidity I very rarely raced anyone on the street).

Sorry for sidetracking the thread.

One cool thing that I have always liked about R's is that their practicality doesn't take away from their performance. In most other cars, you have to compromise between performance or practicality, but with the R this is not the case.

You mentioned carrying drums around. Lemme tell ya... it's no fun trying to get to a gig on time and not being able to load up the car and go. Plus, at the end of all those payments you don't even own the thing. Stick with the R. There's just no reason to get rid of it. And if you need to fly below radar, nix the badges (stickers) and get an alarm.

Both cars are sort of hard to tune tune to their nature, however I have seen better results from people tuning ITR's than S2000's.

Insurance seems to come up a lot.
For me, it will go down when I get an S2K.
Not because I own two cars or anything.
Side by Side, S2K is cheaper for me.

Dude, I totally agree with your statement. Well, happy to say, I did not want to regret getting rid of the R. It's a keeper, regardless of the "unwanted attention" we all get. I love it. And, although the S2K is a nice ride, I know I would get board. It is an expensive toy, maybe a chick magnet for those who need it, and two seats. I don't know, but I know I always love driving the R. Today, for the first time, I am an entering I-70 in Ohio near my home town coming back to Columbus, and I have to beat a mound of traffic who wouldn't seem to switch lanes, and I pop the R into 3rd gear at about 50 mph, and it hit VTEC, and just flat out screamed well ahead of the traffic with no problem. The best thing was, as someone said, it is on its way to being owned, not leased. So, end result of this thread, and day long adventure in car buying, I purchased a 2002 Civic EX as my daily driver to work and winter and hauling drums. I guess the R will last a long time now, as it will never see rain or snow again. Thanks to the awesome group of relentless Type R owners here, for the feedback. Simply, incredible group of car enthusiasts. Don't worry, the S2K is completely gone from my mind. I'd like a house, so I don't want to spend 30K on a 2 seater.
