Default stripped the nuts on my rear koni yellows =(. is what i'm doing safe?

yea, well i installed koni yellow/gcs on my car and i stripped the nut on the rear shocks. the other side is stripped as well, it came that way. ghetto.. i know.

so i just got longer bolts and nuts from home depot and put the bolt through the lca/shock and tightened the nut on the other end. what i wanna know is how safe is this? the home depot employee scared me because he kept saying that these bolts were made to build houses and not cars so it will break.

but from the looks of it, the bolt seems pretty sturdy/thick.

and on the other rear shock, i am using some honda bolt that is a little longer than the stock one that is suppose to be there and using a nut on the other end as well. i am trying to find out where that bolt comes from so i can use it on the other side and have a little peace of mind.

i know cutting the nut off the konis and welding a new one on would be the best but i would rather do this if it is just as safe so i don't have to cut into my konis.

opinions? perhaps, tell me where that longer honda bolt comes from? thanks.

i wouldn't risk it, nothing like your suspension falling apart at high speeds to **** your car up.

You shouldn't be working on your car from the sounds of it.

You should be okay. My 89 civic i had was like your nut/bolt setup. I didn't have any problems. But if you wanna be safe i guess a little loctite wouldn't hurt.

Man that is not safe at all. You can hurt herself and endanger others on the road. If that home depot bolt snaps.

the issue isn't that he's using a nut and bolt setup, the issue is the quality of the nut and bolt. when it snaps a wreck is almost garaunteed.

You guys act like if honda uses some magic bolts and nuts that will never give out! They use grade 8 hardware like every other car manufacturer. Therefore, you should be fine as long as you are using grade 8 hardware!

Ive been rolling on that bolt/nut combo for almost a year now with no problems. Just make sure that bolt is the proper width (M10) and make SURE that nut doesnt move by using loctite

Hey if you go to any hardware store and buy the bolt in a grade 8 bolt you will be more than fine. Just take the same nut/bolt you bought from HD and ask for it in a grade 8. I think HD also sells some grade 8.

I would just cut off the koni nuts
That's how I have it just the nut and bolt. oh you can use a nylock nut too
