Default Color choices... Single or BC/CC?

The car is currently Granada Black pearl, its a 1996 hatch. Someone repainted it before and that paint is cracking all to hell. I want to repaint the car either black or change the color to white. I like the looks of both colors, I figured black would be eaiser to do since I can just blend it at the jambs and I won't have to remove glass either. I have never shot a car before but have painted other things and consider myself pretty good in that respect. I don't mind spending the time to prep the car, thats not an issue. With this in mind, would I be better off in terms of difficulty shooting the paint to go with white or flamenco black? My understanding is that a basic white is a single stage system where as obviously the flamenco black is a bc/cc system. I know you CAN get flamenco in a single stage also. I am looking for a great brilliant finish that will last me a good while. What advice can you guys offer me?

well a white can be either single stage, BC/CC or tri stage. All depends on what color your spraying. I suggest a BC/CC for a ton of reasons

I would go for a base coat clear coat. It's going to be more durable, I think easier to shoot, because if you mess up something, you can stop and sand it, re-shoot it. Then move on to clear. And you can put as many coats of clear as you want. And the clear coat responds better to sanding and buffing.

Alright. If I am going to go BC/CC then I suppose I might as well shoot the car Flamenco Black. Approx how much can I expect to invest in GOOD materials? Any suggestions on brands?

Also look at www.restorationshop.com if you don't have ppg near you. I recommend this place all the time, it's where I got started with paint.

Don't you need like a reducer, a hardner, etc?

Alright, I got some pricing from that one website listed above. Will I need a gallon? A couple quarts? How much needed to paint the whole car exterior. Lets assume I am reshooting it black, so I will blend at the jambs.

Say $340 a gallon for PPG and $96 a quart... same paint. Bc/CC system...

$96 a quart is not shopline. Half a gallon will do the whole car. Normally I get a gallon kit of clear that comes with the clear and hardener for $100
