Default H4 bulbs in HB2 SocketS?

Ok so i was on the PIAA website and i was looking at the different options of lights and i ran across an h4 bulb i wanted to get and it said on the description below that it'll fit all 92-00 civic's

So i assumed that that would be universal to any h4 bulbs connecting to a hb2 socket.

Anyways, i ran out and dished out funds for a pair of super frost whitey's that were H4 and i put them in the passenger side stock socket and turned on the light and sure enough they started to fry. Smoke coming from the bulbs.

I figure it's my fault obviously for going off instinct but then again i still must ask.

Was this an incorrect form of plug and play.

mUST I Only use hb2 for hb2 sockets..

btw my civic is a 98 ex coupe.

BTW i put them in my friends EP3 and they worked like a charm no smoke or anything.
