Main bearing and ConRod bearing measurments
I am in the process of building my h22a4 and i just got the block, rods, and crank back from the machine shop. I know they sent the crank out to get ground but the machinest never told me how much they took off. they also bored and honed the block. They didn't tuch the rods except for tossing all of my old bearings for some reason. So now im stuck with the task of measuring for all of my bearings. I'm pretty sure i measured accurately but my numbers seem out of wack. Here is what i am getting.
ConRod Journal - 1.8795"
ConRod Tunnel - 2.0050"
Main Journal - 1.9600"
Main Tunnel - 2.1260"
After doing the calculations for bearing clearance
(BC = tunnel - journal - ( 2 x bearing thickness)) with using the thickest bearing on the OEM list this is what im getting for rod bearing clearance:
2.0050 - 1.8795 - (2 x .0594) = .0067"
The main bearing clearance is similar.
Has anybody had this problem before or has my crank been ground to much? Is my bearing clearance equation right? Am i doing something wrong? This is my first time completely building an engine so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance .

looks like the rod journal is too small a diameter now. I think nominal is 1.8888-1.8898". Your rod journals are .010" small. OEM bearings come in different thicknesses so you might luck out on finding a thicker bearing. Otherwise your shop ruined your crank.
Another way to measure things is to bolt the block and the rods together separately, torqued to yield. Then use a bore gage to see what the difference is once everything's assembled. If you get different numbers than your prior method then I'd look for a third method to validate one of the two.
Good luck.

Ok i just called the shop and they said they ground it down .010" on the mains and the rods. Does anyone know if i can get a bearing to fit now. I'm looking at different oem bearing sizes according to color and the largest for main is blue = .0793" - .0791" and for the rods is blue = .0594" - .0593". I think for my rods i would need around .0607"-.0608" and the the mains i would need .0810". Am i screwed? If i am out of a crank does anyone have a H22 crank they want to sell?
