Default Exhaust has grown too loud

Greets-

I have a cherished '98 GS-R w/several mods but of note for this post is the Tanabe G-Power Medallion that adorns it.

I'm at a point in my life and career that I'd like a quieter exhaust- unfortunately over time the G-Power has done the opposite- become quite loud.

I started looking into purchasing a new vehicle but with the economy as it is and loving the no car payments I started looking into other solutions. I learned of muffler inserts/silencers but alas I've learned that my exhaust has been discontinued for some time- and perhaps doesn't have any insert that will fit it.

My latest stop was here- to pick the brains of the community. Are there some relatively cheap solutions to tone down the volume or is it down to replacing the exhaust or the car? I had thought perhaps some sound dampening material in the trunk, but then again it's not just the cabin volume that bothers me- it's volume others outside my car experience.

I must say though, when relatively new this exhaust was fantastic- a deep throaty growl that was quiet except for high acceleration. Now at idle it's fairly quiet but any acceleration or even highway cruising speed is uncomfortably loud.

Thanks for your tips/suggestions.

-John

Go with something different and quieter...I love the mugen twin loop, but that is just me...You can also have an exhaust shop add a larger resonator...this will reduce the vibration Db.

Just get a new catback and save yourself the trouble of a discontinued product.

RSR you will need to some searching, some places still have it but just need to look.

Apexi quality dosnt last long. WS mufflers are known to rattle and have loose baffles after awhile.

Get quality, Tanaba, Buddyclub, Spoon, Mugen, or OEM. You can snag ITR catback for $400 at dealership.

Ok doke. From reading the posts here the gist is, there really is no other solution but replacement- that there is no silencer for this product or "resonator" repair steps. Suck it up and put something new on- something that would pass Maryland inspection this time even.

i am in the same position right now. i have a greddy 3vo2 with test pipe. it isnt super loud--ive had a louder exhaust in the past--but i am just growing older and tired of the noise.

therefore i have decided to go with a obx twin-loop, large magnaflow resonator, and magnaflow high flow cat--2.5" all stainless.

silencers don't really work for **** if ur thinken of getting that..i have a silencer on mines and it doesn't make any difference...so i just took it off cuz it made the exhuast look ugly..and if u want a quiet exhuast i suggest mugen twin loop, but thats exspensive..or better yet the infamous apexi world sport 2[super qiuet exhuast] until you floor it.

i posted a similar post about my apexi N1 being too loud.

anywho, i just replaced the N1 canister type muffler with my stock GSR muffler.

now my exhaust sounds really smooth and my wife is much happier riding with me
