Default SI Oil Change

So I changed the oil for the first time in my SI last night.

Is there any freaking way to get the oil filter off without manaing to drip oil all over yourself without a lift?

The only way I could get my arm up in there to unscrew it was to lay with my head twoards the rear of the car and my right side pressed up agianst the tire and that puts my abdomen right in the path of falling oil.

How the heck are you contorting your body/arm to be able to reach it still? Laying under the tire is still a little shifty, even with it on jackstands.

I position myself on the side of the car and not in the front.

Take the wheel and fender liner off. It takes 10 minutes and you get a clear shot at it from the side. You will be able to do it from your knees instead of your stomach. That's what I have to do now because I even have less access because of the excessively large turbo I have.

Take it to the dealer, lol! The wheel off the car may be the best option.

Having a lift is nice just wish my garage was bigger.

Here are a couple ways to not make such a big mess when you take the filter off:

Thanks gentelmen.

I'm still mad at Honda for continuing to put oil filters on the car horizontally. Stupid jerks, just put it on vertically where you aren't going to spill oil everywhere.

That's a nice garage, Clemson.

Mine is about 14'x10'. I have to park crooked and put foam padding on the wall to be able to open the door.

2007 CRV blocks are vertical installation and right next to the oil pan too.

If remember right you did all that mini me how-to a few years back(or maybe that was Bauley Civic), perhaps you could swap the 07 CRV block in there.

Not sure on specifics, but I'd say Caterpillar diesel.

This is the one I have:
http://www.bendpak.com/products/auto...fts/md-6xp.php
http://www.excel-equipment.com/catal...ift-p-146.html
Got it used and it has paid for itself several times. If your car is lowered you will need ramps like the one in the pic below:

yeah, i changed the oil initially on my wife's si and that was it for me. to the dealer it went from that point on. i just don't care enough to kill myself on the ground with it.

i just make sure a complete idiot isn't doing the change at the dealer i go to.
