Well, that'd be a day when you did or learned something that contributes to the end goal of getting back on track and maybe even enjoying being there more. It was that kind of day.

I didn't do this alone. I had help. From an excellent guy named Brian Hasty who runs an excellent little company called Fastbrakes. He took my call and talked to me AND gave me the benefit of his knowledge, experience and insight. That's so nice. "Hi Brian, my name is Scott and I just want to ask you some questions". And he just gave. Told me what I wanted to know - literally (rear disc off a 98 Maxima). And then we talked about some other stuff like pads and the whole brain/foot thing.

I felt that I had to do something for him in return. I know that saying nice things on HT doesn't count for much since most people around here know about him, but it never hurts to recover good things. And, as it turns out, he's a good place to buy Wilwood hardware - so he's where I'll be doing my shopping for that.

But wait - there's more. Race car lunch had guests. A PHD candidate and another working on his masters. Alumn's of a creditable FSAE effort. Talkin about Adams and Catia and maths I never heard of. They were sharing their cars documentation. All very interesting and fun. A couple of us were asking questions here and there..."Do kinematics really matter?"..."What do you think about Force based moment centers?"..."Sway bars?"...and Damn if they both didn't have their full measure of common sense "this doesn't matter as much as that" and "I used to think that might be a big deal and then I calc'd it out and now I don't worry about it much"...it was so nice...no excessive decimals mentality at all...I don't know how many of this quality are making their way out of ME curriculums around the country, but if very many of them wind up racing sports cars they'll raise the bar higher...

And then we all went over to dp's shop to look at the progress of the dp4...and the other exotica. You've seen 2001 a Space Odyssey? That scene where the monkeys are around the black obelisk? That's kinda like what a trip to dp's shop is like for me.

And lastly, back to brakes, Wilwood has mu charts for their compounds, Ferodo logs theirs against time (though AP gives numeric ratings for plot shape on their site that are hard to reconcile with the Ferodo data)...take a look and think more about what you might like thru the stages of the braking event and what kind of information you'd need to know what you were transiting thru and when...I think you could work up a small headache with that. But I think I can live with DS3000 on the front and Wilwood "H" on the rear.

Live with...as in actually driving it. That'd be nice. Hopefully later this year. I can almost feel it...I remember...it feels so good.

i just need an engine to get going....i'll worry about stopping an the other little stuff once the car can move without me pushing it around....now that will be a good day....i thinking 2-3 weeks away!!! wooohooo...

 

A good day for me is when I come up with an idea on how to make the car faster within the rules. I'm constantly thinking on what to do. Spend about 1 hour lay down under the car every other day just staring at the suspension pieces. I think that is when I am most at peace.

A good day for me, when I'm not racing, is getting a big sticky-sweet cereal kiss on my cheek from my 8-year-old as I head out the door to work! Prolly not the kind of response you were looking for, but it's a response nonetheless.

Hi Casey!

Not the right response? No Way! One of my favorite things lately is getting chewed on and licked by our new schnoodle puppy, so I kinda get it, even if she does bite really hard. Another way to have a good non-racing day is to run into a good old friend...even on the interweb.

Scott, who had the pleasure of some odd conversation with dinner guests a week or so ago wherein the husband of my 5th grade girlfriend for 5 minutes responded to his wifes saying to me about staying in contact with an old girlfriend that she couldn't stand "You're not still in touch with Her" by saying "You know Scott"...I like to keep all my favorite people...

I don't race. But a good day for me not involving cars is talking to a stranger. Not just any conversation with a stranger, but a really good one that changes how I think about stuff. They sort of have to be a character or have something cool to tell me. I've only had a handful of these, one of which was with Scott at the ITR Expo in 2005 at MAM.
