Default I'm a noob at drag racing

I have a stock B16A LSD in my '94 Si (heavy for an EG) with intake and exhaust, that's it. I'm on cheap Hankook 195/50/15.

Went to MoKan Dragway the other night, it was my first time racing, and out of 3 passes my best run was a 15.5 @ 90mph. My 60-ft was a 2.4, which I know sucks. I launched at around 3.5-4k and by the time my tires hooked up I had just hit VTEC. Isn't that what you're supposed to do? If I launched any lower I would hookup below VTEC and it was freaking slow on that sticky track.

Any tips? I'm getting a decent header soon so that will help.

What can I do to improve this time? I have Koni Yellows, so should I make them stiff in the rear?

...and some practice. you'll be able to launch higher with slicks if you have the clutch for it. Tune that car so you can get as much as you can from your set up.

I also wouldn't launch on street tires instead slip out the clutch like you were leaving a traffic light aggressively

If youre playing with street tires, dont launch too high. Maybe 5-6K RPM. and be ready to feather the clutch. If you dump the clutch. The tires will just spin uncontrollably. What you want to do is put it in a controlled spin. Its going to spin at the beginning as you launch it, but dont dump the clutch and dont jam on the gas 100%. As you feel its had enough spin, slowly add more gas and you should feel it hook. This is all in a matter of less than 2 seconds so be alert. Its possibly to get decent 60 fts with street tires, but you just have to learn how to play with it with the power you have and how it reacts to the track conditions.

Other than that, practice, save up for some slicks and have fun!

That's what I was looking for guys, thanks a lot. Do if I stiffen my rear shocks, should my fronts be stiff also?
