I've had a metal on metal knocking sound coming from my rear strut towers every time I hit a small bump or etc. no matter how big or small the sounds there. I took the rear struts out and the rubber ring that goes around the top of the strut mount is peeling off. Would that cause a knocking noise? Ive never seen a 96-00 strut mount go bad, thats why i ask?

 

check the rear upper control arm bushing, i've seen one that it literally fell out after 3000miles (aftermarket piece of crap)

 

Yeah I have aftermarket rear upper control arms. But for some reason I have had this same noise in my old 91 hatch. It had neuspeed sport springs with kyb's, with stock upper control arms

 

any other input?
