Are there any federal approved 4 point seat belts?
I'm getting a Autopower Roll bar soon and I was wondering if there are any federal approved 4 points out there. The reason I want federal approved ones instead of sparco's or ones like that is because they would be illegal on the street.
I want 4 points because of saftey since in my recent accident my life was saved because of a guard rail, other wise I would have rolled the car down a mountain

4 point isnt very safe.
5 point is best if you really want a harness. but make sure you put a hole in the
seat for the 5th point or else theres no benefit

The DOT approved Schroth harnesses have an integral reel so that you can still lean forward like the stock belts. The reel will lock just like the factory belts in the event of a collision or even slowing down really quick.
And you doubted me...

still no antisub belt.

Neither does the stock seat belt...
Neither does the stock seat belt... but the stock seat belt tightens the lap belt in a front end impact... not lift it up off of your waist
I think it will be dangerous if I use the stock seat belts with the roll bar.
). I've been using my stock seat belts for street driving and there haven't been any problems at all.
OK then I might just get sparcos and then just use my stockers, I wanted to use harness though. sigh

Trust me...after the first 2-3 times, you won't want to use the harnesses on the street. They are inconvenient and unnecessary. Plus, it persuades you to drive faster than you should.
Now...how do we know this....
The problem is you are so glued to your seat with the harnesses that you can take turns well above normal speeds without it even seeming fast. This is good for track and autox, but bad for the street...

NO. All racing harness (5 point) are NOT DOT approved BECAUSE:
They ARE NOT meant for lifetime use (DOT ones are NYLON and last forever). Nylon is not fire resistant and therefore not good for race applications.
Bob uses both, and for the amount of track time you will (not) be doing.. it wont bother you at all to tie the race harness up when you are on the street

Umm I don't see why many people are warning against 5 points in a car with a rollbar. If such harnesses are so bad, then why are they (and 6 point harnesses) FIA mandated in most professional racing series? Things aren't adding up here...
And if 5 points are dangerous because they encourage you to drive faster, well then should you even be driving an Integra Type-R?

People aren't warning about 5 point belts with a roll bar, they're warning about using them without roll protection. In a rollover many people believe that a passenger will not be able to bend out of the way of a roof being crushed. I know someone personally that may have only been able to walk home from the track because he forgot to put on his harness.
I drive a lot faster with my harness on on the street especially when all the garbage has been cleaned out and my car is on race tires. heh. Now I only wear my harness at Solo 2s and never at the track until I get a roll bar.

I just figure that if you're out to destroy yourself--It doesn't matter if you have 5 points our not.
But about using illegal harnesses on the street... Couldn't you just get a Sabelt 5 point, Takata, or whatever harness and bolt that in, and just wear your normal belt over that?
Then you get the protection of a 5 point while staying legal.Or how are the laws written, do they explicitly forbid using any other safety harnesses, or do they just say you need to use a DOT approved belt when operating a motor vehicle on public roads?
Ok I don't understand the whole 5 point thing! Is it because if you use 4 point you will slide out from under the belts???
