OEM headlight housing with projector plastic cover
I'm pretty sure its been done, but does any body have any pics of using oem usdm ef hatch or rex headlight housing and getting rid of glass cover and using plastic cover instead? and What to pros and cons are?
are you going for the zc look? if so, the oem plastic will outlast any aftermarket lens.
not really sure what the zc look is? do you have any pics? and where can I get the oem plastic? are zc headlights the same as oem usdm ef headlights? I thought stupid halo covers would work on oem housing?
the zc is equivalent to the usdm style. now that i've said that, i've just realized you probably want clear headlights without the flutting. anyways, if you just want plastic headlights but oem flutting, you 'd want the zc headlights.
Actually looking at ZC headlights, I see that they are one bulb headlight systems. So do they use the H4/9003 bulb or the 9004/9007 bulb? I might consider getting those, but yea I want plastic without the oem flutting. Has anybody done it and do you have pics

i wouldnt mind having that look.
putting the plastic clear lense on the stock housing.
clean look. as the stock lens has lines all made in it.
although the plastic will fade and crack eventually.

i have a similar setup. oem housing with clear glass from projection headlights. i did this because i painted the inner housing of the lights champ white to match the car. i'll get pics.
please jay pain post, but I wish you had pics without painting white. Yea the reason I want to do this is because the projectors dont have flutting and lines they look clean, and of course plastic will crack but all new models are plastic i.e. EK EM2 EP3 and so on. Even EG JDM black housing replicas have clean non flutter look. Here are the headlights I plan to use.

it will look nice with the silver inside... as long as it isn't faded.
realistically, you should easily be able to do this...
just buy the things and try. if they don't fit, put them back together and put them on your car. or sell in the FS thread.

i think the zc headlights would allow more light output since plastic allows light dissipation. zc headlights look very similar to the oem headlight except for the plastic lenses and no usdm nipples.
damn, id actually like to see this done as well. ive never thought of that, and was wondering what the EF would look like with that style of a headlight. pics people, pics!
ok sounds like a plan I will try and provide pics when I am done, yea my oem housing is very clean and is not faded so I hust hope this works. Now I wish there was some way to lay down black vinyl or paint on the edges of plastic cover like jdm eg replica . headlights... do you see black tape, paint or whatever it is on edges..not sure if on inside or outside
first why would you want cheap clear plastic over glass? I dont think the ebay lights are made from quality lex! 2nd I have seen the inside of lots of ef headlights. all of them had blemishs in the silver plastic coating. with clear plastic you would see that in your light for sure. That would bug me. It would look cheap inside if you looked close! Also if you paint the inside shell, your never gonna have as bright of a headlight again. 3rd with all the time and $$$ risk spent, it would seem more logical to just pay for new oem headlights I would think.
well like I said my EF headlights are clean *** ****, Ive taken them apart before.. And thats the point I dont want flutter cover
well not only should you swap lenses over, but you need to concentrate the beam patterm with smoking the housing. I would either buy the oem ZC headlights and run just one single bulb, or take the ZC headlight lens and swap it over to the usdm housing for the low/high beam lighting. Both may have their benefits.
there was an article that i read about how the beam patterns change after smoking the housing. The ef was never designed to produce such a great light output so keep that in mind, they never thought about HID or bright bulbs.
as for the black paint ontop of the lights, idk what that does, but it looks cool. it might just keep the lights from shinning into the hood, and underneath the car

Yea I thought about that, but problem I am having with zc headlights are that I'm going to take a huge risk with buying some with faded hosuing. Is there any way to modify usdm housing? Oh and do they sell paint that will stick to the plastic housing? And should I paint on outside our inside? And where can I buy zc headlights and are there differences in them? What year zc headlight will fit my 88 htach?
i had those black out eg ones. you can just crack it open and spray the outer parts on them. for the EF im not to sure. i know it didnt affect light output at all.
