Default Rattle can spray paint

I just bought a plastic front lip ready for paint but I'm on a limited budget. I managed to get some spray cans and clear coats and I have no idea how to paint the lip. Couple people told me to spray the basecolor and put enough layers of clear coat until it matches the color on the car. Can anyone explain the process...

LOL!.... did you buy the correct color of the car? some auto parts stores mix car paint into rattle cans. if its the same color spray some primer first, im guessing the lip is ABS plastic and has nothing on the bare plastic. after the primer wet sand it with some 600-800 grit sandpaper then spray it with the basecoat. spray until you cant see the primer no more then one more coat just incase. then put 2 nice wet coats of clear and your all done... GOODLUCK!

Yeh I bought the right ones. They're Dupli-Color's B-95P for my ebp em1, I also bought the Dupli- color clear coat for it. I'm a complete noob at painting, when you say spray another coat - do you mean spray 1 coat, let it dry, then spray it over again?

I actually suggest when you paint with rattle cans, to dust the surface first with the paint and then go back over it again after a little bit of wait time so it will tack.

Before you spray the clear, I also suggest you sand it with water and like a 800 grit paper or more.

yes i mean with the BC put one a coat ( not heavy ) and let it flash for like 5 mins then go back and do the same until its covered dont rush it!

you do not have to sand with 800 grit as that will take off some of the BC no need to scuff in between BC and CC just spray the CC over the BC when your ready for it

That is how I have always done it on my project vehicles before, but then again I was using Urethane paints
