I know there are some rally guys lurking around and it always brought up some excitement to see that around here. It's just not something that's talked about too much unless you go into the archives. Maybe there can be a Rally section right under the Road Racing/Autocross Forum where some of us who are interested in that type of autosports can chat and lurk around!? And maybe, just maybe we can get all the previous threads re-routed into that thread... It'll be fun!

I am building a 97 EK for rally now! Rally prep is its own animal: a rally car build has very different priorities from a roadrace car. Body prep, shocks, steering, gear ratios and control arms are very diifferent between a roadrace and a rally car.

-Is there a reason you want a specific, different area?
-How would you like the forum to be moderated?
-Can one of you put together a rally FAQ?

 

I'm not 100% sure we have enough content to demand a different area. Probably would be at most 100 people that would participate (although probably a lot more would post). Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps the RR/AX forum should be RR/AX & Rally?

The content is the big thing I was wondering about. At the same time, some of the less common marque forums have a pretty low population/post count. It's been brought up to the head honchos, I'll keep you all updated when I know more.

^I agree. I would vote for renaming this forum "Road Racing/Autocross/Rally" just to make it inviting for rally topics. A lot of information and drivers cross over to all 3 categories anyway.

 

yeah, probably not enough interest to make a whole other forum for it, but maybe put it in this title like the others mentioned. Although I do see rally posts in here every now and then anyway.

What we really need to do is get Speed to start covering WRC again. When they were covering it 5-6yrs ago it was awesome, so much good action. Then they canceled that and started playing more Nascar. Lame.

 

This^ is mostly the reason I'd like to see the seperate section. Rally cars go through 3-4 completely different set-ups per season. You get to see all aspects. The tarmac set-up, the gravel set-up and the snow set-up.

Renaming the Road Racing section with an additional Rally term won't do much since the rally guys are already here anyway. Just for the sake of an organized rally section was the reason, a place where you can narrow down your search if you wanted to.

Moderation I'm sure won't even be needed in the meantime, it'll be a small section since it's not so popular I'm sure.

I've seen some builds, they tend to get lost in the Road Racing section after alittle time and the OPs just don't follow up anymore it seems.

If it doesn't go through it's no big deal, there's probably just not enough content or interest to call for a seperate section.

The only place I've followed WRC is online torrent sites. This season of WRC is boring besides watching Solberg battle it out in a 4 year old Citroen. IRC is way exciting to watch right now and if you can find them, the Irish Tarmac, French Tarmac and British Rally series are phenominal! Exclusive online stuff, it's crazy just how unpopular it is in America.

What suspension, wheels, tires, seats, harnesses, rollcages,etc...
Last thing we need is 20 people asking the same questions over and over again each week.
Improving the search feature would also help.
I dont have a problem searching 10 threads to find an answer I want but the mass majority do.

I'd love to see Rally added but if we dont fix whats really broken we are just asking for more of the same MUNDANE stuff!

I don't see the search feature getting any better, or changing much at all. I could be wrong there, but realistically think I'm pretty spot-on. A nice write-up/tutorial of the new engine would be great, since the old one is no longer accurate.

rotten, whether or not we get another forum/subforum going, a rally FAQ would be very useful.

 

I can see revising the name of the sub-forum to Road Racing/Autocross/Rally but don't see Rally as it's own forum. An FAQ could be useful and I'd be happy to make it a sticky.

Pinks All Out lmao. F1 I have no time to watch live, I used to get those torrents but gave up since there is so much going on with the rally world it's hard to keep up with everything.

Adding Rally to the title would be pitiful. It's either full section or nothing!!!

My opinion would be to just modify the category ID and add /Rally. I don't think there is enough rally entertained people for its own section. my .02

I do agree this section needs a small face lift. The search function, forget it BIG pile of FAIL. However there should be a few noob FAQ stickys, there always seems to be the same mix of asked topics that the search function lacks big time to the users looking for already talked about or archived content.

A while ago, there was a semi-crackdown on superflous sticky threads. And one that got axed was a newb intro to RR/AX in general. I see no reason why I can't bring that back and update it with working url links - just have to find the thread.

 

I've looked for it before, and that would be great to have back and updated.

i'd like to just find an easier way to get to rally specific information, whether that be its own section, or improved search functionality. i know/think that us honda rally guys are quite few, but if we at least had a place to discuss rally specific things, i think the information sharing could help us all. specifically i've been pouring over this site to see what honda guys are running for alignments and suspension setups on the dirt. locally, i'm the only honda running any type of rally, so its a bit difficult to get information from people. i usually find myself copying setups from the VW guys...

I think there would be enough content to keep it busy. There are quite a few guys here that do both Rally and rallycross and TSD's to keep this busy with tech/news/rumors/lies and damn lies... How to get strated, tips, tricks, do's and dont's, etc... versus them going into the general US rally forums and everybody telling them not to build a Honda and just get a Golf or a Focus!

It would also generate more interest from the general honda guys to start looking more into participating in rallies, either racing, crewing or voluteering.

Plus I dont think that a Rally sub-section to roadracing would be too hard to do, and if in fact it ends up sucking then it can easily be shut down. But my guess is that it would flourish specially since Honda's are some of the favorite 2WD Group N3 and R3 rally cars in Europe. I know several european general rally forums with tons of Honda guys that could easily start posting here too. Some already lurk here for engine/trans tech anyhow.

In all I think it would be a great idea and the rally posts wouldnt get lost and overwhelmed amongst the road racing section.
