What's the best way to spend $3,000 on an AP2?
I just sold my 350z and I'm thinking about getting into an S2K - most likely an AP2. I've heard they do not respond well to some bolt-ons, and I am wondering if it can equal the performance of my Z on a road course.
What bolt-ons work best? If I had 3k to spend, what would be the best area to spend it on (assuming I already had capable tires/brakes for the track)?

Thanks, I'm looking for specifics here. I'm having a hard time finding anything useful here or on s2ki. Which exhaust makes the most power? Which intake does the same? Which coilovers are robust enough for R-comps and slicks?
If I were you, since you run nasa hpde, I would find out the base class for your car, and build your car to be a competitive time trial car. I think kw v3's are a great track shock, but you need to be carefull you dont go over in your points and get bumped in a much faster class..
I would deff get some coilovers esp if i had 3k i would get some nice ones. exhaust and intakes can come later.

^ lol im so happy im borderline anorexic jk i am realy skinny though and cosidered woring out but gave up when relised that would envolve gaining weight/making my car havier
I agree. Sounds like the OP already knows his way around a circuit w/ a rwd car. The S2k shhould bot be hard to figure in that respect. With this knowledge suspension would be my preference to cover first.
Gears - 4.56 or 4.77 depending on how aggressive you want to go
Exhaust - J's 70rr single
Drop in filter - K&N

If you want to track the car and 3k is all you have then just get light wheels, r comps and race pads to start out with bro. Don't modify anything else on the car until you get used to it! If you are going to autocross look into a new front sway as well.

Dude...I can't figure out if you're being serious or if you're just the world's biggest troll.
OP: I haven't had issues crushing 350Zs in my stock S2000 or my S2000 on springs/hankook street tires.
I have KW V3s, Dunlop Direzza Z1s, ADVANs, race pads and an intake as the car sits. It's pretty F'ing fast around a track.
I'd say your $3000 should be spent in a nice suspension and some sticky tires.
The TIR sparrow 70MM EM dual on www.evasivemotorsports.com seems to be the most powerful exhaust out right now. Or so they claim.
They claimed 14whp on an otherwise STOCK ap2. Pretty good. Plus, it's not loud. I'm saving up for this exhaust. $500 more and I'll have it.

I have seen this exhaust and the numbers seem really nice!
Assuming you have tires and wheels already, I'd say:
1. Adjustable Front Sway Bar...reduces drama. $400
2. Alignment with a good shop that understands racers.
3. Bilstien PSS9 : read this before buying Japanese dampers http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets6.html $1300
3. Seat Time ($200/day)
4. More wheels: 949 Racing 6UL (available Q2 2009) $1000
5. More tires: the good stuff doesn't last long ($1000/set)
6. More Seat Time.

^agree with the Bilstein PSS9, that is what I am saving for.
For swaybars Comptech seems to be the most recommended one for the track because of adjustment
