new brakes...squeak terrible
i just put new front pads on my integra...they came with that thin piece of metal that goes around the back side of the pad between the pad and caliper..i put that on...but now about 3 weeks into driving the car they squeak when i push the brake pedal..
and yes i did check and there is plenty of pad left so it isnt the wear sensor
can i use that red stuff that u buy at the auto parts store that goes between the pad and caliper to fix this?...or is that only for older vehicles?

actually it's a combination of the two. the squeaking is caused by vibration, a certain frequency. that's why you here a squeak in stead of grinding. putting the red stuff in between the pads and the caliper will help to muffle that vibration. breaks up that frequency.
this is lamens terms, there is a technical way of saying it, but this is all i can remember of the top of my head.
Good question.
Regardless of the answer though, were the new pads bedded correctly? Most people skip that step, and then wonder why they have brake noise... Its even more important if old rotors were used that were not turned / deglazed.

I have brake noise and my rotors are as shiny as can be (I assume thats what you mean by glazed), but I have awesome braking. People who drive my car say that they grab really well also, no problems in rain. Odd.

You have to turn the old rotors or replace with new ones, when you install new pads...because the uneven surface of the old rotor will ruin your new pad, and the glazed rotor against a new pad can cause bad braking power at low speeds in your front brakes because your metering valve is doing the light brakeing control at that given time, this can result in hitting the car in front of you at a stop light. As far as the nosie goes, that is just vibration that you are hearing due to not using the silcone based anti-squeak, and not turning your rotors...This means that there are areas that aren't makeing contact...which = vibration. I bet they shake when trying to stop at high speeds...Take them to someone who knows what they are doing, before you cause an accident....Due to your ignorance!
