whats the best paint? rustoleum or marine paint
I've been seeing people use both but does anyone knows which one is better between the two. Which one gives off a better shine etc. , rustoleum or west marine paint?,
^ Don't listen to that guy, not everyone can afford "the real thing." I'm doing the rustoleum thing right now. I sanded the car, now I going to go back over a re-sand the areas I've missed. I'm taking pics as I go along, I'll try to remember to post them up when I've finished.
Dont listen to me? Ok then good lucky buddy when your car turns out like S*it. Real automotive paint is not that expensive if you look around. You can do an entire car for $200 in materials. But dont take my word for it. Oh n make sure you bought enough paint brushes and rollers lol
$200 huh? Show me where you can get the base coat, the clear coat, the gun, mask, rental of a paint booth all for $200. I'm curious...Oh and let's remember that not all of us live in a city or even close enough to keep it under your magical $200.
Anyways, I just saw the post with the guy who used the boat paint...I might need to change my mind. I haven't opened the can of paint that I bought from Home Depot so I guess I can bring it back if I want.

I dont live close to a city either. The paint can be had online for that price from numerous sites
heres a west marine paint rolled on.. (taken from another thread)

and heres a rustoleum i did (actually both cars, white/smoked gray)

i have yet to experiment with marine paint. the dude said in his thread that you didnt have to mix it with mineral spirits. rusto you do. and sometimes it hard to get the right ratio..

I used RustOleum on my car a year ago and it has held up great against rock chips and tons of road salt that PA likes to use during our harsh winters. It stll shines and has a nice gloss. Cost me about $12 to do the entire car.
Rusto is hard to get even. I have lots of orange peel from rolling it on, and I've experimented with a lot of stuff. I'd try that marine paint, it looks better too
Name some of those sites that you can get the paint, and then honestly answer if you would really use said paint. If we're honestly talking about painting your car with "Auto Paint" or nothing at all, I'm really curious how well your car would turn out after PROPERLY mixing the base coat, other layers, and clear coat with all the hardeners and/or reducers. (Don't forget, we're talking about the average do-it-yourselfer with no prior experience painting a car.) Or, you could blow $50 and spend a weekend to get a decent DIY paint job. Oh, that also dries in the weekend you painted it, as opposed to the weeks and weeks it takes for true "Auto Paint" to dry, *ahem* cure.

i pianted my car for 450 buck ths with all PPG material sunlight yellow with 872 reducer and 894 clear. Im not a big flan on useing spray paint to paint your car...save the money and have it done by a pro or build a booth which is cheap and get the stuff and do it your self.

If I were to use a gun, I'm sure it'd come out great with much less orange peel and less runs. Just ask My_EFSedan
This is my Rusto job. I mixed it 50/50 with mineral spirits. I used a paint gun, but you could probably get similar results with a roller. I used Sunshine Gloss Red. It's a little brighter and oranger than Milano Red.

My advice: Whatever you decide to do, test it out on one panel first. Prep and paint that one panel. Then wet-sand, polish, and wax. Then take it out in the sunlight and see how you like it. This way you can change things before you mess up the whole car.
The lighter the color the better. White will hide flaws, black won't.
Also, have patience. You won't get this done over 1 weekend. Have another ride set up so you won't have to rush things because you need to drive your car.

If you have anything worth saying, than say it. Don't whine and cry about having something or somebody worth arguing with...explain what you mean with words so that the people here who are trying to 1. Learn how to paint their car and 2. Do it as inexpensively as possible, know the benefits and negatives to either painting with a non-auto paint, or using auto paint.
And since you've made it clear that I "...don't have the first clue what I'm talking about." Why don't you give me and the others who want a serious answer a "clue."
As for the original inquiry, (which made referral to two, and only two specific types of paint) I have read through a few "$50 Paint Jobs" involving both and have drawn the following conclusions:
-Both are fairly durable paints.
-Most people claim that marine paint is glossier.
-People also claim that Marine paint does not fade as quickly.
-Both are much cheaper than auto paint especially when the tools required are incorporated in costs.
-Marine paint can be rolled on without being thinned, whereas Rustoleum needs to be thinned.
-Both will need to be thinned if sprayed.
-Both are able to produce very satisfying results depending on effort, prep, and maintenance.
In conclusion I have read that marine paint is considered better quality than rustoleum and can produce better results. Although this may be true keep in mind that proper prep plays a very very large role in the results of the paintjob.
There is a site dedicated to cheap paintjobs, check it out and read up if you'd like it will really help you out. The site is, www.rolledon.com
Hope this helps you out a bit.
Precision, are you getting into fights again telling the truth? Shame on you for trying to steer someone in the right direction!
Here's a quick blurp about the "price" of getting a car painted, I just posted up a handful of links to support the idea that painting a car with good paint is not as expensive as you think, it's in this thread: https://honda-tech.com/forums/paint-body-84/flakes-rustoleum-2554756/

Haha ya you caught me. I dont know why I even care bro. Just wait till these rusto guys actually want to do a real paint job in the future and have to strip there entire care down to the factory primer. There are quite a few members who went the rusto route and regretted doing it down the line. Do a search and read for yourself the results. Im sick of the same question being asked every week about the roll on paint jobs. Someone needs to post up a sticky so we can do away with this kind of shananigans lol.
You have comprehension issues.

No I dont have comprehension issues I just have ADD
So here Im going to share a few things with you guys.
Marine paint is alot better in many aspects.
Just dont go with bottomside marine paint as most contain copper to ward of crustaceans
Rusto is not catalyzed so it can rub off with paint thinner
Rusto does not have U.V. protection to prevent fade and oxidation
Rusto takes longer to apply than a BC/CC Paint job (If you want minimal orange peel)
Waxing rusto will Prolly lead to some type of hazing after a while
Its ghetto
