Default help! cluster problem

im narrowing down several engine problems. as i turned on my car this morning i noticed that the check engine light flashes but not in a code type of way. as my car is starting the light flashes. it seems like a poorly pwered light. i hear this static buzzing noise with it and as soon as the car starts it stops. in other words it the check engine light hesitates to go on and makes the stick noise. is my cluster bad or do i have a short somewhere? my car feel lose after and the gass pedal becomes really spunggy.

If that noise i coming from engine bay it may be fuel pump it primes for about 2 seconds. If the sound is like an electrical arc then yeah, a freyed wire may arc to something else or ground causing a short. you said when the car starts it stops, that is when the CEL usually comes off. I suggest a getting a electrical manual (haynes will work) and take the cluster out and look for any bad leads, connections, or wires. use the manual to look for the color of the wire to the CEL. the wires are fed through a large blue connector. Not hard to do so dont worry if you cannot locate problem get a friends help. Oh yeah, one more thing, it could simply be the bulb itself, I have seen blown bulbs still work because the tiny wire still connects. Just check every thing you can think of.

i checked the cluster and everythign is okay. i found that it does throw a code 1 ( one blink) but only when the car has been running for a while. and i think i have an exhaust leak some where. i also noticed that my my headlights dim when the car comes on. thanks
