Default polishing compound

ok my quarter panel was repainted end of feb/early march. my car is black so i know its hard or known that its need a good polish after a month or so. the paint looks ok but just little dull....i can take it back to my shop but they're so busy it'll take them a few days to get to my car and in eed my car back...i know they should take care of it but i rather do it myself if i can.

i was wondering what kind of polishing compound do i need? can i do this by hand? i have orbital buffer but i am not real good at using it so i rather not. are any of the polishing compounds from kragen/autozone good enough to give it a good shine?

polishing cant really be done by hand. if you have some minor swirling, go with some menzerna nano (106ff) with a white ccs pad then with a blue ccs pad.

autozone does carry megs stuff and #205 is the one you want but they tend to be picky with a da or orbital.

I like to use 3m buffing compound. az has that. then top it off with swirl mark removal.

you dont need buffing compound. thats more than likely what left the haze look it has now. you need a polishing compound. if you do have access to 3m products, use untrafina. if you dont, then order some menzerna, both of these will get the haze and swirls out, just use the least aggressive pad necessary.

ok so i will need the polishing compound and then some polishing pads...i'm kinda of hesitant using the orbtial buffer since i'm not real good at it. thats why i wanted to by hand....its not really that bad but does a need a polish to get the full shine out...i was just wondering if there was a way to just use some autozone stuff and do it like a wax or something.

i'm not sure if i have access to 3m stuff.. i do know kragen down here does sell some kind of 3m polishing compund but not sure if they have any kind of buffing pad or anything. if not i'll take it back to the shop and see if they wil take care of it for me.

im sure someone near you has 3m, menzerna is a germany product and can be bought at autogeek, but 3m is easier to find.

dont be afraid to use a orbital with some polish, you cannot burn the paint. what kind of orbital is it?
