Default fluctuating idle and jumpy speedometer needle

Car:
01 ITR with JDM ITR

Recently Replaced w/ New Tranny (thanks Irev1210 awesome dude )

For some reason when I first start the car it idles normally (slightly high at cold start) and then drops normally. As soon as I give it a bit of gas or drive the car and come to a stop I begin to have a consistent idling surge ( from about 900 - 1500k). If I shut the car off and restart it, the surge is gone until I gas / drive again.

The car drives normally besides my speedometer needle randomly jumping around sometimes. It will sort of spike then drop low for a few seconds, kinda like a cracked out teenager The odometer moves normally and RPMS are displayed correctly.

Anyone have suggestions as were to begin troubleshooting?

I had this problem when I took off my tranny for a rebuild. After installing it back my speedometer jumps around at mid and high range rpm. Took it to a local shop and replaced my speedometer sensor plug (located on the tranny) after switching the plug it went away. Doesn't hurt to try

Clean out your IACV as well! That'll help your surging idle.

I am willing to bet its your IACV causing you some issues, or its loose maybe. Take it off and clean it.

Make sure your grounds ont he motor and tranny are good everywhere. I had that happen to me on my RS and idle would jump, needle wouldn't only jump though, it hit 0 and went back up! total motor stopped at one point. So check the above stated and if all else fails, make sure your grounds are good! It'll save you some time!
