'99 Civic LX cracked exhaust manifold
Replaced mine w/aftermarket unit from Dorman products. Mine was part# 675-512. Came with all the necc. hardware and gaskets. Cost was $125....thought that was pretty fair.....

I'm going to get an aftermarket 2 piece unit. This way if the manifold cracks, I won't have to replace the cat.
A 'y8 won't do because it's a 4-2 manifold and the 'y7 is a 4-1 manifold unless I change out more of the exhaust system.
What a stupid design by honda.

I removed the old manifold last night. I know that sealing the manifold to the block is critical and so I bought a new gasket.
Is there anything I should put on the gasket/block/manifold mating surfaces to help seal it???
I do intend on cleaning the block with some brake cleaner.

The exhaust manifold gasket is enough, once you put it back on and drive the car for about a few days, tighten up the bolts/nuts again since they tend to loosen up.
Ok, the car runs great. However, the engine light came on and it's throwing a code 67 (cat. converter), damn OBDII!
Any ideas on what might be causing this?

No he needs a cat! The secondary o2 sensor tests the function of the cat. Installing a new aftermarket header on LX and DX models eliminates the cat, hence the CEL its throwing is saying the cat function is bad.
A good way to fix this and keep it stock obd 2 is to get the cat and mid pipe from the EX model civic 96-00, but i guess in canada its called the "Si" model?

I have a 97 Honda civic 1.6l sohc d16y8 and I have a cracked exhaust manifold. Do I have to replace my cat. At the at the same time on that year? Is it on piece? PLEASE HELP!
2. Your reading comprehension is lacking. This thread is for the non-vtec engine which has a 1 piece manifold and cat. You have the vtec engine which came equipped with a two piece manifold/cat, the way it should be.
I recommend going to a local junk yard and getting a used part.

look under the hood, next to the exhaust manifold there's a block stamp. Reiterate what your car says right there.
while you're doing that, look at your cracked exhaust manifold. For your car, there should be a main piece that bolts to the engine. The 4 pipes should combine into 2. Then that should bolt to another piece, where the 2 pipes combine into 1. Then this piece should bolt into the cat.
you may need to take off a heat shield thingy, like 3 bolts.
infact, try and take some pictures of the crack and the whole thing. Upload them to a site like imageshack or photo bucket whatever and then link the pictures to YOUR OWN THREAD.
