Default Vac line & seafoam - d17a

hey, i've search but havent found what i'm looking for.
My mileage in my 01 civic dx has gone to the dogs, it has 120,000 km's on it, brand new plugs installed by honda, new air filter, but original fuel filter.
I'm hoping the seafoam would help improve the problem without having to replace the fuel filter, i want to run the seafoam through my vac line and put the rest of the can in the gas tank.
Has anyone done this before on a 7th gen civic? or can you actually run it thru the vac lines?

Basicly i'mm looking for a how too, maybe even a diagram as to the location of the Vac Line and how to remove it for this purpose.

thanks

take the large vac line off the brake booster. sea foam works best when it can be distributed to all cyl. evenly. i sugguest using this 1/3 where you add your oil, 1/3 in your gas tank and 1/3 in your vac line. add to oil and gas tank then start the car and suck up through the big vac line. little by little until its gone. if the car starts to sputter slow down the amount u add. once its all in the car let it run for 2-3 minutes then turn the car off, let it sit for 10-15 mins. start the car and jump onto a highway or open road and jus drive. you will notice the car smokes, possibly alot. thats what you wanna see (it means all the crap is comin out of the engine, sludge/carbon and stuff like that) once the car stops smokin takin it back to where your workin on it and change the oil. she should run a lil better after this.

pm me if you have more questions. i do this to all my cars and i swear by this stuff. ive doen it several different ways and ive found the best way IMO

It's the only rubber hose that leads into your Brake booster.

Theres a metal clip on there. It is near the brake fluid.
When i did mine 05 civic i had to squeeze the clip and remove the hose with the clip. That was the hardest part for me. Same as putting it back on. Mine didn't smoke too much - only have 49000 miles. The following day i changed the oil, oild filter, and plugs. It seem ro run rough, making me think i did something wrong, but after driving around the engine is running fine.
I wouldn't go over the recommeded 1/3. My sisters bf had friends who went over the recomended dosage and blew their motors.
I was worried about over doing in so i used 1/4 for each area to put it in to see how the car reacts.

That's not attached to the booster. That is your clutch fluid line leading from the clutch reservoir to the clutch master cylinder.

The big black cylinder is your brake booster. The vacuum hose is on the left side of your brake fluid reservoir.

If you cannot distinguish the difference between them... maybe this is a bit out of your mechanical range?

Either way:

You need to clean up that engine bay, bud. Warm up your engine, get some Simple Green and spray down everything in there, then spray it again, then hose it all down.

No wiping involved.

1. Warm up car.
2. Spray down bay with SG.
3. Wait 5 minutes.
4. Repeat step 2.
5. Repeat step 3.
6. Hose off bay.
7. Admire.

so i got the metal clip pull back on the hose so its off the connection, however the hose will not move from the brake booster, i'm pulling to the point i'm afraid the hose may bust, is there any easier way of getting it off other than pulling on it?

I used a small monkey wrench (Vice-Grips will work as well) to free the hose from the hose barb on the booster. Just clamp on to the hose slightly, and rotate it to break the seal (hose should rotate on the barb). Then it should pull off with little effort.

Thanks.
I followed your instructions, i got the hose off, i did what homelessEm2 posted earlier, and then took the car for a drive, i'm not long home, it smoked ALOT, but its not now, and it sounds like the idle is actually slightly smoother, the engine is still to hott to touch yet so once it cools down i'll change the oil.

thanks for all the help and input everyone.

i swear by seafoam. its a great product and they make alot of helpful items like thier penetrating lubricant, works better than wd40 and knocker loose. its called deep creep.

Seafoam is great stuff but, don't add that stuff in the oil unless you know what you are doing. It can be a make or break deal and suggest taking it in to a pro.
besides oil changes to a pro shop isnt much of a price differance anyways so might as well, take it in

well a pro shop is gonna cost me 45 bucks, i did it myself for a grand total of $20(15 for oil and 5 for filter and $0.52 for a new crush washer) id rather keep the $25 in my pocket.
But i did put seafoam in my oil, i went for a run, after the car had cooled down i changed the oil, I followed the steps that homelessEM2 posted and my car has never run better, very gald that i did it.

I went for a drive yesturday to my parents place (140 km's 1 way) i put 280 km's on the car and only burnt about 3/8's of a tank, where as before the seafoam i would have burnt over a 1/2 tank.
My idle has improved, the hesitation when accelerating is gone, and most importantly my mileage is back to where it was a year ago.
