Default Seat Belt Replacement

FIRST THINGS FIRST! I realize that its unsafe, i already have a mother and i dont need anymore mothers so keep your crying to yourself. thank you.

I recently picked up a pair of 1988 si panels and was wondering if it would be legal to put in these seat belts.

http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/ho...-sbelt-21.html

random generic 2 point belts. after swapping the panels and sanding that the bump thing in the door a cop wouldnt even be able to tell that this car came with "shoulder/waist straps."

would this be legal? and besides that the freaking seat mechanisms weigh a ton lol.

doesn't matter if a cop can tell if the car came with it or not. law states that all vehicles manufactured after i believe 1976 for cars and 1978 for trucks are required to have a shoulder belt. so to answer the question if its legal to do.... no. can you get away with it when pulled over.... maybe, if the cop doesn't care.

i would like the option to have just a lap belt in my car, i don't wear my seatbelt because of the shoulder belt, but if i had a lap belt i would wear it all the time. the shoulder belt randomly not letting me move where i want to makes it harder for me to maneuver the car, while the lap belt doesn't do that and keeps you strapped to the vehicle so you dont go flying around in an accident.

The only thing that a lap belt is going to help with is not being ejected in a rollover.

Have fun with your crushed organs.

it does more than prevent you from being ejected in a rollover. it will keep your body from flying any direction even if it not a rollover, its like bolting yourself down to the car, just like the seat is bolted to the chassis, it makes you one with the car. it may not be better than a lap/shoulder belt but it does its job. the point of the shoulder belt is to hold you from flying forward in an accident, it can't hold you from going any other direction, the lap portion of the seat belt does that.

Im not quite sure which direction your talking about, It's hardly going to help in a side impact (there's nothing stopping you from crushing your front passenger), it does nothing in a rear impact, and well, in a front impact usually you've braced yourself on the brake/steering wheel anyway.

Better then nothing? Sure. It's only really beneficial to a passenger though.
