Default y8 freak show is sick...

missed a shift, hit msd rev limiter @ 8.2k. car now has low rpm (till about 4k rpm) miss then clears up later in revs.
symptoms- splattering oil out of breather on valve cover, very slite, but obvious. with oil cap off, obvious crankcase vapors exuded BUT, upon revs, no vapors or crankcase pressure.
mil indicates codes 72 and 74, but when reset will take some miles to come back on....
compression check 280 180 280 275. no smoke, stays cool, no noise in/from engine AT ALL. my guess is damaged ring, how can you jsut damage a ring w/o killing most of the compression in that cylinder. I'm guessing ring lands are fine cuz no noise and maintaining compression...what's the deal???

Well, you are killing alot of the compression in that cylinder, try pouring oil into that cylinder and then do a compression test, if it comes up higher it is a situation with the rings.

sounds likes one of your valves isn't closing all the way or a valve seal went bad. That would explain ALL of your symptoms.

I did almost the same thing last night to my poor little d15b7, I was passing a car in third at about 85 and shifted by mistake into 2nd. HHHHHOOOOOOLLLLLLYYYYY SSSSSHHHIIIIITTTTTTT!!!!. I thought my ****** seatbelt was goin to decapitate me. Smoked like a fuggin bitch when it happened and luckily I caught it before I hit 8 grand, I dont really care though, this weekend Im swappin in a nice little d16z6.

what were the positions of the pistons when you did this gas test?

were they all even? The cylinders have a slight taper towards the bottom, so pistons that are further up might leak faster.

Just a though, don't really know where I am going and what could be wrong.

Damn, did'nt you just get that sucker together too...!?

I don't get how everything can checkout good , but you are still having "leakage".
Machinist said the cylinders are in good shape? .050 bored and not a scratch? No cracks or nothing? Does'nt add up...
Get a second opinion...
