one of my friends just paid a guy a large amount of money to take a 93'ish Cx hatch and put a B20 bottom end/GSR head in it. It runs bad at low RPMs until he gets into it, bad idle too. The guy didn't use an o2 sensor but instead, used a paper clip in the sensor's plug and taped it off. I don't believe he has any check engine lights on but then again, he said he no longer has dash lights after the guy worked on it.

I told him that an o2 sensor is required so the computer knows if the engine is running rich or lean. Is there anything else he should look at or do you guys think the missing o2 sensor is the main cause of his problem. I know it has a chipped P72 in it, thats about the only info I have on it right now. oh' and bad gas mileage, he said he drove 80 miles and it took half a tank.

 

ok 1st thing is 1st tell him to get an o2 sensor. if u dnt run one do NOT paper clip it to loop the connection. computer cant read it if its not there. and once he gets an o2 and it still runs like poop. buy a new ecu that isnt chipped. whats the numbers on the ecu? why would he have a chipped ecu? ive never chipped an ecu unless its boosted. i dnt tune things that are not boosted no reason to.

 

I told him he needed one. and as for the ECU, I don't know why its chipped either, the guy that put the engine in for him installed that computer. it supposedly has "stage one crower cams" in the engine but I still don't know why they felt the need to mess with the computer. I really doubt the engine has different cams. I know the guy likes to feed alot of B.S. to people he has worked for. I'll have to let him know to get an o2 sensor for sure.
