I have this issue with the Check Engine Light coming on only when the car is running. I have already tried to pull codes by using a piece of wire with both ends exposed and jumping the service connector inside the engine bay (driver side). Whenever I check for codes, my cluster indicates that there are no codes or none to be found. However, when I start the car the light comes on within 5-10 seconds after being started. The light remains on during my entire drive until I shut off the car. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to clear this annoying sucker? I've never experienced anything like this before so I somewhat stumped as to what I should do to resolve the issue. Thanks.

 

what ECU do you have?

 

P28 OBD1 with Crome. I tried a total of 3 different OBD1 ECU's and the same thing happens. Check Engine Light comes on only when the car is started and running. Thanks.

 

aren't you supposed to jump two wires on your jumper harness?

 

Not sure. I highly doubt that it would matter though. Someone chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

Well it would help us is, what harness are you using? The jumper wire colors are green and brown, should be on a gray clip on the harness by the firewall but your probably using a ed harness so its not there. Find your wires or make sure your using the correct jumper plug. Also are you using a different cluster because the ed's are not wired up for cel. If you are using different cluster did it get wired in right?

 

Im using the stock 89 Honda CRX DX harness with a Rywire OBD0-OBD1 conversion harness. I'm completely aware that the jumper wires are green and brown. I'm 100% positive that the jumper plug used is correct. The cluster is stock untouched.

BTW, what is an ED? Is that the sedan model?

 

ED,EE and EH, Are all 88-91 cars most people are cheating and just call them ef's. So then yes your car will not show a cel I'm pretty certain because It would have had to been wired to the cel to fash. Some one with more can chime in but they have the info now to understand.
