Sup guys im not in here much other than to look at pictures since I dont have a prelude myself but my girlfriend does. 97 non SH.
Were having a problem with it though, Last weekend I decided to do some cleaning under the hood and used (Gunk foamy engine bright). Since I have used that stuff her car has been experiencing a bogging like feel when being driven, It will shake at idle and turn off at times. It almost sounds like its misfiring when under throttle, and when i let off the throttle and coast in gear it sounds absolutely fine..
First thought that came to mind was check the sparkplugs.. There was moisture, but not much at all. The rotor/cap was also completely dry.. Today a check engine light came on and I looked under the passenger dash for a blue clip (like i could find in my civic) and couldnt find anything. Therefore I have no idea what code its throwing yet...
Any help is appreciated, Im not that experienced with preludes/h22's obviously! Thanks guys...
Note: she just told me that It sound like this until about 4k rpms, once she revved over that the feeling what go away and sound fine... So its just within that range I guess...

First of all, your supposed to rinse off the gunk with water. Unfortunately I don't drive a prelude. I'm not familiar with its troubleshoots.

I did rinse off the gunk with water, Thats what I thought may be the problem. I did some reading on absoluteprelude.com since I didnt see a 5th gen DIY for the check engine and I ended up finding it...
Checked it and its throwing code -72 (Random Misfire Cylinder 2)
I dont know If I was the cause of this or if It could be the distributor/wires going bad.. etc.. Where should I start given the circumstances???

did you cover the distributor and other electrical components with a plastic bag or something to keep water from getting inside b4 you started spraying?

mainly the dizzy and the spark plug cover, I've powerwashed a ton of engines and never had a problem just covering those two things. Seems like the dizzy got wet. try leaving the hood up and the cap off on a nice dry day for a few hours.

I didnt cover the distributor, but I also know better than to spray on, or directly at the dizzy. I did hit the valve cover a bit but when I checked there was no water down there in the plugs. Also, After I was done doing this and washing the car I drove it out onto the street to go park it and about a half a block into doing so is when it started. (but with no check engine)
Thinking back It did have idle issues, sort of a fluctuating deal... Never thought anything of it though.

update.... changed the sparkplugs, cleaned the sparkplug wires....Seems to be smoother. There is a subtle jump on the idle almost a light very small popping in it... And after I reset the ecu all the lights on the dash that turn on during the start up....stay on.....
**** my life!!! haha Im so over it... damn car.

Misfiring usually is caused by the rotor water could have leaked, i'd actually take rotor out and leave dizzy cover off for a day with hood up to make sure it airs out
Worse case is your timing belt slipped a tooth
i have a 93 lude dont know too much about 97 i dont know what all they changed
