from the time i got my h22a i was told it was a closed deck, i pulled my head today and its an open deck.

anyone want to explain this to me?

 

What does the block code say, H22a, H22a1 or H22a4?

H22:

92-96= closed-deck
97-01= open-deck

looks like im investing in a block guard.

 

My JDM H22a is closed deck..

97-01 JDM H22's are all H22a's too.

 

My H22a1 is an open deck.

 

impossible, all a1's are closed deck. unless someone installed an a4 block that had all the obd1 parts swapped over to it and re-stamped it as an a1

Closed deck = Obd1
Open deck = Obd2

 

h22a4 obd2 is an open deck and h22a and h22a1 obd1 are close deck

 

Thats a bad way to explain it because that doesn't tell him what "open deck" or "closed deck" really mean.

"Open Deck" - The cylinders appear to be free floating in the block.


"Closed Deck" - The cylinders are solid with the block.

Guys, what would be better to build?
open or closed deck?


i know you can sleeve and "blockguard" an open deck.. but would a closed deck be better (and cheaper) to build? (turbo)

really dont know what to do now..
can get my hands on both for a reasonable price right now..

NA or Turbo, get the closed-deck. Open-deck seems to have a tendency to go out of around as miles accumulate. Closed deck is also better for turbo for obvious reasons.

 

so is a 98 H22A closed deck or open?
