Default I am disappointed in AEM.

As you all know, or don't know. The AEM CAI for the 5th gen has larger piping than the 4th gen. 3'' for the 5th, 2.75'' for the 4th. This proves in point that 3'' is more appropriate for the H22A motor...the only reason the 4th gen CAI model is 2.75'' is that it has to be efficient for a combination of the F22A1, H23A, and H22A engines

So I also assumed that the 5th gen short ram intake would also have the same 3'' size piping as does the CAI. Well I open the box today and find that it is 2.75''!!! So the whole purpose of buying was wasted. Because I already run the 4th gen AEM CAI!

My plan was to do this: Have a 3'' short ram intake. Then custom fabricate my own custom "icebox" similar to Comptech's own. Doing so allows me to improve my topend, better than the actual 5th gen AEM CAI itself, and probably help my lowend also. Also we cannot forget that I wouldn't ever have to worry about hydrolock, even though I don't much anyways.

Needless to say, I am very frustrated right now. I could have just cut my 4th gen AEM CAI

hmm, not to add insult to injury but who's fault is that.

it's been pretty common knowledge that all the 4th gen.s are 2.75inches.
you could have easily called aem for the specs on the intakes as i did a few years back.

i'm sure you could sell or return.

No no, you read me wrong.
I am well aware that my 4th gen intake is 2.75''. Ive had it for 2 years. Recently I decided that I would like to purchase the 5th gen model to improve performance and then sell my 4th gen CAI.

The whole issue is that I bought the 5th gen intake and its isn't 3''!!! Its 2.75''. Therefore my purchase got me NOWHERE. See now?

Apparently AEM decided to make their 5th gen short ram down in size to 2.75''....which ruins what i was trying to do.

why didnt you research and double check the size of the short ram before buying?

Its common knowledge that AEM makes 3'' intakes for 5th gens and that the 4th gen is 2.75''. I see no reason why it should be different for the short ram.

For example, I called Injen and asked the diameter for their 4th gen Prelude intake system. They told me 3''. Their cold air intake is smaller than their short ram.

Yet with AEM has decided to decrease the piping diameter the short ram. I'm wondering if this is due to laziness...just slightly changing the piping shape of the 4th gen short ram to better fit the 5th gen and manufacture as so. Rather than spending the time to construct a new 3'' short ram system.

sorry, did misunderstand you.

however, you did assume. lazy or not the short ram probably has always been 2.75inches for the 5th gen. doubt they would change the design now.

but maybe you could do an exchange or something.

You think that 1/4 of an inch really makes a big difference? Probably no difference.

Either way, that blows dude......

the diameter doesnt do squat....as long as the intake is at least the same size as the throttle body..im running an accord aem cai...2.5", and it definately makes power...top end....as my 98 mph traps would indicate..later

i thought the 2.5'' aem (f22cai) will create back pressure, and increase low end, but will affect your top end and top speeds.....read that somewhere while inquiring what was necessary for the upcoming h22a swap. dyno charts proved it..not sure if it was h22a.org or .com or another site in general...

what year accord did you install the 5th gen CAI on? And how close or off was the mounting bolt/rubber thing to the stock location?

95 Accord and the mounting bolt doesn't line up. It doesn't really move though cause it's a tight fit between the rubber around the base of the filter and the hole that the pipe goes down in so it stays in place.
